The U. S. Federal Mint located in New Orleans was the only mint to serve both the Federal and Confederate governments. When Louisiana seceded from the Union, the building was seized and used to mint Confederate money. The mint was closed after Union forces captured New Orleans. http://www.usgwarchives.net/la/winn/photos/coin01.jpg http://www.usgwarchives.net/la/winn/photos/coin02.jpg File at - http://files.usgwarchives.net/la/winn/photos/coin-1861.txt The online site for the old New Orleans Mint, now a museum, is at: http://www.neworleansonline.com/tours-attractions/museums/oldusmint.html
