In the late 1800's John moved to Winn Parish, and settled in the community of St. Maurice near the Saline Bayou. He married Lucindy Fisher who was born 2 April 1859 near Pleasant Hill, LA. John farmed the land, and horse traded in the areas until his death in 1911. He died from a gunshot from a 10-guage shotgun in the hands of E.J. Gamble during a duel. Once friends, the two men exchanged words over a debt owed by Gamble to one of John's sons. John died June 11, 1911, and it is not known if the senior Gamble made good on the debt owed the younger Graham. Both John Graham and E.J. Gamble are buried in the St. Maurice Cemetery adjacent to US Highway 71. Lucindy Graham died 20 Nov 1935.
