In West Barnstable, Mrs. Anna, widow of the late John BASSETT, aged 55. Died, in Dennis Poor House, Miss Molly BAXTER, aged 90. The subject of this memoir was courted by a young man in her youthful days, who subsequently deserted her, which event affected her rational powers, although she had intervals of apparently perfect sanity. Miss BAXTER was an excellent singer and very fond of the old melodies, which in former yers were sung in churches and moral meetings. She was also the best spinner known for miles around, and used to make her boast that she had spun coats for two ministers (ALDEN of Yarmouth and UNDERWOOD of Harwich). She supposed that she was 100 years old, but a reference to the records of this town, in which she was born, shows that she was but about 90. In New Salem, January 10, Capt. Benjamin STACY, 82. At the surprise of Cherry Valley, where his father was taken prisoner, he, though only 17 years of age, made his escape with a gun in one hand and a blanket in the other, by an activity for which he was always remarkable, the savages meanwhile firing upon him in hot pursuit. Mr. V. was born and spent the early part of his life at Dennis and was often on the great deep. He was once in company with three of his companions, precipitated into the boisterous waves and very narrowly escaped being drowned. Mr. Benjamin PAINE was the 4th in lineal descent from Thomas PAINE, Esq., one of the first settlers of the Town of Truro. Mr. PAINE has always lived in this town, being highly respected as a faithful friend, particularly strong in his attachments, a kind and obliging neighbor; a benevolent citizen and exemplary Christian. March 21, 1844 At the Barnstable Alms House, Mr. Jonathan NYE, aged about 80 years. In West Yarmouth, on Saturday last, Mr. Thomas CROWELL, aged about 80. CROCKER and daughter of Deacon Josiah SCUDDER, 33. In West Harwich, on Sunday last, suddenly, of a rupture of a blood vessel, causing internal hemorrage, Mr. Joseph ELLIS. In West Sandwich, 19th inst., Mrs. Clarissa W., wife of Mr. Daniel NYE, 21. In Montpelier, Vermont, Mr. William ALGER, 23. Accidentally killed in a fox hunt by the discharge of his musket, loaded with shot, the muzzle on which he was leaning, being under the hollow of his arm. He lingered a fortnight and was then seized with lockjaw. He was to have been married the next week. In Ontario County, New York, Miss Sarah T. HERRICK - found in the bottom of a well. The curb was low with much ice, and in drawing water she must have slipped in. On board whale ship MIDAS of New Bedford, October 15, 1842, Pardon HOWLAND Jr. - 13 - he fell from the fore topmast cross-trees to the deck, killing him instantly. August 31, 1843, Shubael H. In Hyannis, 10th ult., Lucy S., youngest daughter of William and Bethia BEARSE, 2 years and 11 months. May 16, 1844 In Yarmouth, on Sunday last, Mrs. Bethia DAVIS, aged 82 years. In South Yarmouth, on Saturday last, Ichabod SHERMAN, Esq., aged 70. The deceased was one of the Selectmen of this town and had the office eleven years, a proof of the regard in which he was held by his fellow citizens. At sea, April 9th, on the passsage from Liverpool to Havana, Capt. Calvin HOWES of Dennis, aged 32, master of ship KONOHASSETT of Boston. In Framingham, 20th ult., Mr. Perkins BOYNTON, 62. While in conversation with his son he fell suddenly back, and expired without a stuggle. Died, on the 10th inst., in Harwich, the widow of the late Rev. Nathan UNDERWOOD, aged 73. Mrs. UNDERWOOD was a native of Waltham, but has resided in Harwich more than half a century. May 23, 1844 In Osterville, 8th inst., Mrs. Henrietta, wife of Capt. Oliver COFFIN, aged about 30 years. Samuel BRACKET, about 57. May 30, 1844 In Sandwich, 22d inst., Mrs. Elizabeth WING, the mother of Paul WING 2d, Esq., about 62. In Edgartown, 25th inst., Mrs. Dinah, widow of Elisha DUNHAM, aged 75 years. In Boston, 22d inst., Perrin MAY, Esq., 77. In Roxbury, 23d inst., Mr. Josiah CLARK, merchant, of Boston, 45. In Brewster, 25th inst., Mry M. FREEMAN, widow of Elkanah FREEMAN, aged 78. In February last, Mr. Godfrey CROWELL of Harwich, about 24 years of age. He fell from the main top of the deck of the barque AMERICA (on her passage from Bangor, Wales, to Boston) and was taken up senseless and expired in eleven hours. He was a very active enterprising and competent young man and much beloved by all who knew him. Plymouth - The venerable Dr. James THACHER died in this town on Thursday morning last, aged XC years. Dr. THACHER was born in Barnstable and entered the Revolutionary Army at Cambridge at the commencement of the war, as a Surgeon's Mate under the late Dr. WARREN of Boston. He was soon promoted to be a surgeon and in that capacity served during the war. He was present at many of the principal battles of the Revolution, and terminated his services at Yorktown. He was an eyewitness of the execution of ANDRE, and has fully described the scene in his Military Journal. At the close of the war, he settled in this town as a Surgeon, where he has since resided. He was eminent in his profession and during a large portion of his life was actively engaged in a succesful and extensive practice. Dr. THACHER was the author of several approved medical works, but was probably better known to the public as the author of the "Military Journal" and the "History of Plymouth". He was a zealous antiquarian and was an early and indefatigable friend of the Pilgrim Society of this town. June 6, 1844 In Pocasset, 24th ult., Mr. Adoniram LUMBARD. 27yh, Mrs. Julia, wife of Mr. George W. ELLIS. In West Barnstable, on Sunday evening last, the wife of Deacon Shubael H. CROCKER, about 60. In Harwich, May 27th, Mr. Edward SMALL, 80. In Boston, 30th ult., Mrs. Eliza, widow of Jabez LEWIS, 44. June 13, 1844 In Chatham, May 31st, Capt. Joshua ATKINS, aged 67 years. Capt. A. sailed for many years as a shipmaster on foreign voyages and by his energy and enterprise succeded in acquiring wealth. He was abroad among his neighbors in his usual health until one o'clock on the day of his death, and was found dead on the floor of his house just at evening, his family having been absent from home some hours. He had for years been subject to fits of epilipsy, in one of which he probably died. In Raleigh, North Carolina, 27th ult., Mrs. Lucy, relict of the Rev. Jonathan Otis FREEMAN, D.D., late of Sandwich. Died, in Brewster, on the 25th ult., Mrs. Mary M. FREEMAN, wife of the late Capt. Elkanah FREEMAN, aged 78. June 20, 1844 In Centreville, on Friday last, of consumption, Mrs. Sally, wife of Mr. Isaac BEARSE Jr., about 31 years of age. Drowned, from on board barque YARMOUTH of Boston, at Charleston, South Carolina, about 7th inst., Mr. Zenas GAGE, seaman of this town, about 22 years old. A coroner's inquest was held morn of 8th, and rendered a verdict of "accidental drowning." In Bass River Village (South Yarmouth), 17th inst., Mr. Silas BAKER, aged 78. Disappeared from schr ORNAMENT at Albany, about 12th inst., a boy named Prentiss M. BEARSE, cook. When last seen he was in the boat alongside the vessel and it is supposed he fell overboard and was drowned. Search was made for his body, but it was not found. He was brought up by Mr. Oliver CROSBY, Centreville, and was about 15 years old. In Chatham, June 14th, of consumption, Mr. WilliamTAYLOR, son of Capt. Samuel TAYLOR, aged 22.
