Wilson 1928 Wright & Potter Printing Co. Boston If you desire more information on this cemetary see the listed book above. At the 3rd annual town meeting a committee was appointed to purchase land for a cemetery, there had been a prior cemetery but it was almost private in its access. So in 1853 the committee began the task of finding suitable land. In 1856 they purchased a lot from the heirs of Thomas H. Perkins containing 2 acres. Accessable by High Street South easterly entrance. It was added to over the years. In 1918 Mrs. Luther S. JOHNSON offered to build a Cemetary Chapel. The chaple is named Ellingwood Memorial Chapel. For the purpose of this information, I divided the cememtary into quadrants and each stone is numbered in the quadrant beginning with 1-and so forth. The east side I refer to is the entrance from High Street and the main entrance is on the west side from Nahant Rd. The momuments represent the earlists members of the commuity that were moved from Pleasent St location to Greenlawn. >From East side entrance or back entrance divided into 4 quadrants 1st quad-north/right side from east entrance. |---------------------------------------------| | | | | 3 | 4 | | | | |_______________________|_____________________| | | | | 2 | 1 | | | | |_______________________|_____________________| 1-Monument on large natural boulder with a maple tree growing from the side of the rock.
