Asa Prince of Danvers, in the regiment first commanded by Col. Mansfield, and afterwards by Col. Hutchinson. That he then served for eight months at Winter Hill, and the headquarters of General Washington at Cambridge. In the spring of the year, 1777, he enlisted as a private in Capt. Samuel Flint's company in the regiment commanded by Col. Francis of Beverly. That he served twenty-one months, and during this time, he was engaged in the capture of Burgoyne, and several skirmishes. At the capture of Burgoyne, he was wounded in the hip and on his right foot, and from these wounds, received a lameness from which he still suffers." "He also served in several other companies in the Army of the Revolution, but he has not been able to obtain any satisfactory testimony in relation to them. The whole amount of service of which he has been able to obtain proof is the term of eight months in Capt. Asa Prince's company, and the further term of twenty-one months in Capt. Samuel Flint's company, making altogether a period of twenty-nine months. For proof of these services, he refers to the affidavit of Joseph Putnam with whom he served in the several companies before mentioned." "He further notes that he was born in Danvers in the county of Essex on the ninth day of June 1765; that he has no record of his age; that he lived in Danvers from his birth, till he entered the army; that since the Revolutionary War, he has continued to reside in the said Danvers, til the year 1830, when he removed to Salem, and has continued to live in said Salem. I received one discharge from Col. Hutchinson, but have lost it." Signed, Ebenezer Goodale."
