Situated opposite the City of Springfield, in the centre of Hampden County, West Springfield extends along the west shore of the Connecticut River. It has an area of 9,427 acres, a population of 6,125, with an appraised value of $3,810,510. In February, 1774, it was detached from Springfield, and now, at the time of this directory going to press, the annexation of the town to Springfield is being seriously agitated. Connected by electric cars with Springfield, a public library with over four thousand volumes, its pleasant homes, its shady and well-kept streets and avenues, its schools and churches, it is a most delightful place in which to live.
