MICHAEL F. CROTTY—Enlisted in Troop M, 3d U. S. Cavalry, in May, 1898; with Fifth Army Corps in Cuban campaign; wounded by a shot through the shoulder at bat-tie of San Juan hill; promoted to corporal in September; discharged in December, 1898. JAMES FAGAN—Enlisted in Co. H, 9th Massachusetts Infantry, U. S. V., at South Framingham, May 4, 1898; with Fifth Army Corps before Santiago from July 1 to August 28; discharged November 26, 1898. WALTER HILL—Enlisted in Co. A, 8th Massachusetts Infantry, U. S. V., at South Framingham, May 11, 1898; in camps at Chickamauga, Lexington, Ky., Americus, Ga.; garrison duty at Matanzas, Cuba, about three months; mustered out April 28, 1899. FRED G. HOWARD—Enlisted in Co. F, 1st Connecticut Infantry, U. S. V., July 1, 1898; garrison duty at Fort Preble, Maine; in hospital July 4 to July 29; in camp at Camp Meade, Pa., and Niantic, Ct.; mustered out October 31, 1898. HUGH C. McEWEN—Enlisted in Co. F, 1st Connecticut Infantry, U. S. V., June 28, 1898; garrison duty at Fort Preble, Maine; camps at Camp Alger, Va., Niantic, Ct.; mustered out October 31, 1898. ROBERT McGRATH—Enlisted in the U. S. Navy in June, 1896; assigned to the battleship Indiana; transferred to the gunboat Halena shortly before the war and given the position of carpenter, serving in that capacity through the war. The Helena was with Sampson's squadron and was one of the vessels that convoyed the Fifth Army Corps to Santiago. The Helena is now in Philippine waters. WILLIAM M. MILLS—Enlisted in the U. S. Cavalry in 1892 and served three years in the west; private in Co. G, 8th Infantry at beginning of Spanish-American war. This regiment was brigaded with the Second Massachusetts in the Fifth Army Corps, and Private Mills participated in the battles of El Caney and San Juan hill. He re-enlisted in December, 1898. JAMES E. NOLAN—Enlisted in Co. E, 2nd Massachusetts Infantry, U. S. V., at South Framingham, May 3, 1898; wounded by a shot through both legs in the battle of El Caney; returned north with Lieut. Moynihan; mustered out November 3, 1898. HARRY T. PHELPS—Enlisted in the navy as first-class seaman, April 14, 1898; assigned to collier Niagara, with Sampson's squadron; transferred to battleship Indiana after cessation of hostilities; discharged in February, 1899. SANFORD A. RICE—Enlisted in Co. F, 1st Connecticut Infantry, U. S. V., June 28, 1898; garrison duty at Fort Preble, Maine; in camp at Camp Alger, Va., and Niantic, Ct.; mustered out October 31, 1898. CHARLES S. RILEY—Enlisted May 4, 1898, as corporal in Co. A, 1st Connecticut Infantry, U. S. V., having served for two years in the militia; in camp at Niantic, Ct., May 4 to June 9; on detached service at recruiting office in Hartford June 9 to July 1; garrison duty at Fort Knox, Maine; in camp at Camp Alger. Va., and Niantic, Ct.; mustered out October 31, 1898. HERBERT A. ROSS—Enlisted May 4, 1898, in Co. F, 1st Connecticut Infantry, U. S. V., having served for a year in the militia; garrison duty at Fort Preble, Maine; promoted to corporal July 1; in camp at Camp Alger, Va., and Niantic, Ct.; mustered out October 31, 1898. FRED E. STEELE—Volunteered as a member of Co. H, Massachusetts Naval Militia; mustered in at Brooklyn navy yard, April 24, 1898; assigned to the auxiliary cruiser Prairie with rating of able seaman. The Prairie took part in two small engagements with Spanish gunboats and shore batteries, performed considerable scout duty and convoyed the 9th Massachusetts regiment ashore at Ponce and Guayama, Porto Rico. Seaman Steele received his discharge from the navy at the Charlestown navy yard October 2, 1898. THOMAS BARRETT—Enlisted in the regular army in August, 1893; private in Co. E, 17th U. S. Infantry at opening of the Spanish-American war; served in Cuban campaign, participating in the two days' battle of San Juan hill; died of disease at Santiago, August 4, 1898, five days before his term of service expired. Private Barrett had planned to return home with friends in Co. I. His body was brought north in March, 1899, sent to Northampton with those of Co. I boys, and buried with military honors April 2. ALVIN B. TITCOMB—Enlisted in Battery B, 1st Rhode Island Light Artillery, U. S. V., June 29, 1898; in barracks at Quonset Point, R. I., from date of muster-in until mustered out October 26, 1898. Enlisted in the regular army after discharge from volunteer service and assigned to Troop I, 6th U. S. Cavalry, stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
