D. NORTON -- Joseph Drances Norton, 86, died at his home in Loudville, Saturday afternoon from the breaking down of the system resulting from old age. Mr. Norton was a life-long resident of Westhampton [Loudville] and was widely known from his connection with the wood-turning business, which he established 50 years ago, and which has of late been conducted by his son, Leonard Marshal Norton. Mr. Norton was born in Westhampton, August 18, 1815. He learned the carpenter trade and established the wood-turning manufactory in Westhampton when a young man. He married Miss Anna Elwell Bridgman of Westhampton, who died about five years ago. He leaves besides his son, two daughters, Mrs Albert Eli Metcalf [Isabella Norton Metcalf] and Miss Mary Submit Norton, both of Westhampton. Mr. Norton was a member of the Congregational Church in Westhampton. The funeral was held this afternoon. -- Daily Hampshire Gazette. Additional Comments: Joseph Drances Norton was the son of Joseph and Miriam (Kingsley) Norton. He married Anna Elwell Bridgman on October 8, 1840. She was born September 7, 1819, the daughter of Spencer and Dotha (Burt) Bridgman. She died October 15, 1897. They, and most of their nine children, are buried in the Center Cemetery in Westhampton, Massachusetts. Only one of their children, daughter Isabella, ever married.
