Was a trader in Hadley and New Salem. An History of New Salem, Mass., by David Kenneth Wetherbee, Private Printing. He stayed here the rest of his life and must have been an important link between the Salem people of Hampshire County. His three poles in 1759 must have included his twin sons Samuel and William. Ezekiel, Sr. had a brother Ebnezer in Amherst. If Ezekiel, Sr. had any military command over New Salem's French War forifications, as reputed, it has escaped my research. (The site of this fortification is actually unknown. The person who placed the historic marker on Blueberry Hill, had no more idea of teh actual location than the reader.) Forbes Library has only volumes 2 and 3 of teh Crouch-Kellogg account books in the Judd Collection. Croush died in 1761 and Giles inherited the practice. He continued to give a great many of the frightul contemporary medicines, bled extravagently and charged enormous prices for his herbal concoctions. He lived accentricly and his personal life was scandalous by Hadley 18th Century standards. When he came (by horseback) from Hadley to attend New Salem's sick, he stayed at his relatives here. He and Robert Stone of Old Salem had half interests in one right of the New Salem Propriety. +8 vii.
