He was a Colonel in the Vermont militia in the War of 1812 and marched for Plattsburg, N.Y. on September 11, 1814. He served as selectman in 1821, 25, 28, 32, and 38. In 1840, he was Asst. John Wells to serve at the garrison at Ticonderoga. He was discharged on April 1, 1777. When he enlisted again it was as a Sergeant in Capt. James Walworth's company that went to New London, Ct. He entered on July 22 and was discharged August 27, 1779. For hsi service he received a pension of $24 per year. In his pension application there were other episodes of service including an enlistment in August 1776 when he went to Quaker Hill and built a breastwork and then marched with General Washington to White Plains. The Skinner family removed from Shelburne, Mass. in 1796 to Waitsfield, Vt. Jared acted as town treasurer in Waitfield in1798 and 1803 and selectman in 1797, 1799, 1800. Eli Skinner enlisted as Fifer for Capt. Agrippa Wells' company in May 1775 and served at Prospect Hill outside of Boston until December. He servedagain as Fifer for Capt. John Wells from December 23, 1776 to April 1, 1777 at Ticonderoga. For his service, Eli received a pension of $34 per year. Left Shelburne in 1795 to resetttle in Waitsfield, Vt. He served as town treasurer in 1804 and 1805. About 1835, he removed with his second wife, Eleanor, and some of his children to Gourvenour, N.Y. Still later he moved on to Illinois where he died. iv.
