He graduated in 1S02 from Brown University, Providence, R. I., where he was tutor from 1802 to 1805; afterwards he taught school for fifteen years in Exeter, N. H., and subsequently he became a Baptist clergyman and was settled as pastor of the Baptist Church, June, 1818, in Exeter, N. H. He resigned September, 1828. The Rev. Mr. Ellis was regarded as a fine scholar, a successful teacher, and an excellent preacher. He married Lydia Whitmarsh, of Providence, R. I. Mrs. Ellis died Feb. 22, 1838, and the Rev.
