Indian Burial Ground, Little Sandy Pond Road, Plymouth, Massachusetts 02360, is located on the southeastern shore of Little Herring Pond on the Plymouth-Bourne town line. There are no signs alerting a traveler to the location of this burial ground that, judging from numerous raw, uncut stones marking headstones and footstones, and carefully placed piles of rocks, certainly mark the burial sites of unnamed Native Americans. Directions: Going south on Route3, exit at #2, White Cliffs. Take a left onto Herring Pond Road. Travel about 2.6 miles and take a right onto Little Sandy Pond Road. The burial ground is about 1/5 of a mile on the right abutting private property. Transcriptions by Mary Aguilar on 07/20/02. Dates appear from the earliest (1849) to the latest (2001). Spellings are as they appear on the stone. Where I have typed a question mark in a parenthesis "(?)" means that I am not able to determine exactly what is engraved on the stone, but have taken an educated guess: e.g., "1853(?)" means "It appears to 1853"; or "ALDEN(?)" means "It appears to be ALDEN." A question mark without a parenthesis "?" simply means that an alpha or numeric in a word or date cannot be exactly ascertained but again, an educated guess is made: "185?" means "eighteen-hundred-and- fifty-something"; or "Born ? 7, 1853" means "born on the 7th in an unreadable month in 1853"; or "? ALDEN" means "unreadable given name ALDEN". Stones are in excellent to poor condition with more gravesites identified with only unmarked raw stones, than with carved stones. It was not necessary to clean any stones because the ones that could not be read were either broken and missing, or extremely worn. Finally, important to note is that I am extremely careful to ensure that NO STONES ARE DAMAGED, and the site remained undisturbed during this project. ******************************************************************************** ************************************************************** WILSON HARDING 1/22/1913 - 12/31/1989 (NOTE: There was no stone marking this grave.
