Mr. Otis was one of those few men in our country, who rise to distinction upon their own intrinsic merits, and who, by that distinction, are placed beyond the temptations to meanness and dishonesty, that many of our Politicians and Statesmen became victioms to. As such, and as a pure patriot, it is one of the greatest recommendations to Gen. Taylor, that his nomination to the Presidency received his sanction and support, which was given in a letter of Mr. Otis' recently published.
