Thayer, 60, of 132 Park drive, died early Wednesday morning on a train while nearing East St. Louis, according to a message received Wednesday by members of his family. Mr. Thayer was engaged in making an inspection of the St. Louis division of the Southern Railway system at the time of his sudden death, which was caused by heart disease. The body will be brought to Atlanta for funeral services and interment. For 27 years Mr. Thayer had been connected with the Southern Railway company and had made his home in Atlanta for 22 years. His long service with the Southern had been marked by steady promotion and he was chief general road foreman at the time of his death. Before coming to Atlanta in 1902 Mr. Thayer made his home in Thornton, Mass., the city of his birth. He was a Shriner, a Knight Templar and a vestryman in the Inman Park Episcopal church. Mr. Thayer is survived by his widow; three daughters, Mrs. J.H. Lanier, of Savannah, Ga.; Mrs. R.H. Barnes, of Atlanta, and Mrs. Frances Robbins, who was Miss Frances Thayer, won the title of “Miss Atlanta” in the contest conducted by The Atlanta Constitution as a part of the 1923 National Beauty contest; three brothers, William Thayer, of Los Angeles, Calif.; Harry Thayer, of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Lou Thayer, of Denison, Texas. Thayer, 60, of 132 Park drive, who died Wednesday near East St. Louis while on an inspection tour for the Southern railway, with which concern he had been connected for 27 years, will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Church of the Epiphany, Rev. Russell K. Smith officiating. Mr. Thayer came to Atlanta in 1902 from his birthplace, Thornton, Mass., and was general road foreman for the Southern railway at the time of his death. He was a Shriner, a Knights Templar, a vestryman in the Inman Park Episcopal church and a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Mr. Thayer is survived by his widow, three daughters, Mrs. Frances Robbins and Mrs. R.H. Barnes, of Atlanta, and Mrs. J.H. Lanier, of Savannah; one son, Vernon Thayer, of Atlanta, three brothers, William Thayer, of Los Angeles, Harry Thayer, of Santa Barbara, and Lou Thayer of Denison, Texas.
