Transcriber's notes on the 1910 Federal Census for part of microfilm #T624-629 Enumeration District #1778 Town of Mendon, Worcester Co., Massachusetts. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ General: Since there are no handwritten page numbers on this census, I have included the sheet number in the first remarks field for each page. The sheet numbers are generally sequential within an enumeration district and/or by enumerator and consist of an 'A' and a 'B' side similar to page numbers. Unlike the page numbers which do not repeat for a given volume, the sheet numbers start over with each new enumeration district and/or enumerator. If a person was married, not only did column 8 have an 'M' but also included the number of the marriage for that person (i.e., M1 or M2 etc. for 1st or 2nd marriage respectively). In columns 12,13, and 14 not only was the birthplace recorded but in MOST foreign born cases the native language is also listed and, for this transcription, are shown in parenthesis which were NOT part of the original source. Due to space limitations it was also necessary to sometimes abbreviate the native language in this transcription (i.e., Ireland English becomes Ireland (Eng)). The letters 'Un' or 'Unk' may appear in some columns and means the information expected was unknown and could not be supplied to the enumerator. There appears to be an unusually high number of misspelled names in this enumeration district. I noted them if it were an obvious error but could not note them all. Make sure to search for various phonetic spellings of a name. This enumerator either did not keep track of the dates or the entire census was completed in one day (April 15, 1910). There are many entries in column 18 where the word 'Housekeeper' has been crossed out and the word 'None' written in. This usually happens to the wife and older daughters and relatives of a farmer. Even though housekeeping was part of their 'job', they were not paid for it and therefore was not counted in the census. Page 208b line 99 has the words "This ends the enumeration of South Milford" crossed out. Page 209a has lines 51 - 100 over written with 1 - 50 because the enumerator marked what should have been Sheet 2B as Sheet 2A. Page 209b has lines 1 - 50 over written with 51 - 100 because the enumerator marked what should have been Sheet 2A as Sheet 2B. Page 211a has lines 51 - 100 over written with 1 - 50 because the enumerator marked what should have been Sheet 4B as Sheet 4A. Page 211b has lines 1 - 50 over written with 51 - 100 because the enumerator marked what should have been Sheet 4A as Sheet 4B. Some family units which continue to another page may not follow in the logical page sequence. Please read any comments at the end of a line to 'direct' you to the rest of the family unit. Page 216b line 90 has the words "This encludes the enumeration of the Town of Mendon". It is also the last page for enumeration district #1778.
