Ezra Beaman company of the arms and equipment: Moses Goodale Aaron Goodale David Goodale" Additional Comments: There are two groups of descendants who lay claim to the services on Aaron Goodale /Goodell, of Shrewsbury. Both have documentation from early county histories. I will attempt to show a bit of what I have discovered, below: From: "Historic Homes and Institutions and Genealogical and Personal Memoirs of Worcester County Massachusetts with a History of Worcester Society of Antiquity," 1907, Ellery Bicknell Crane, ed. Vol. II, pg. 371: "Aaron Goodale, son of Edward Goodale (4), was born in what is now West Boylston, January 6, 1743, and died there in 1817. He was a soldier in the revolution, a corporal in the company of Minute Men from Boylston who marched on the Lexington alarm April 19, 1775; he was also captain of John Maynard's company, Colonel Joseph Cushing's regiment, in 1777." "He was a farmer. His homestead was a half mile west of the common; he handed it down to his son Aaron, Jr., who in turn left it to his son Charles. He was a resident of West Boylston all his life and died there. His will was made February 17, 1817, and filed for probate August 28, 1817. He died August 17, 1817. He married, 1767, Eunice Marshall, daughter of William Marshall, of Holden, Massachusetts. She died in 1832, aged eighty-four years, having had five sons and six daughters." "Children of Aaron and Eunice Goodale were: Eunice, born January 20, 1769, married Phinehas Ball...; Lois, born November 8, 1770, married Captain Joseph Thomson, of Barre, Vermont; Edward, born June 22, 1772; Sarah, born December 30, 1773, married ___ Prouty; Elizabeth, born August 18, 1775, married Captain Joseph Thomson [not an error; he married 2 of the sisters]; Lucy, born June 11, 1777, married Samuel Rood; Aaron, see forward; Hannah, born October 18, 1782, married Hiram Howard; Abel, born January 1, 1785, died 1853; married Grace Merrifield, who died 1819, aged thirty-four years, leaving five children; married (second), 1821, Mehitable Hubbard, who had two children; William, mentioned in father's will; Ezra, mentioned in the will." "Index to the Probate Records of the County of Worcester, Massachusetts" from www.newenglandancestors.com has a 1817, residence: West Boylston, Will case # 24461, for a Aaron Goodale/ell/all. The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution Volume 49, page 251: "Mrs. Mary E. Goodale Howe. DAR ID Number: 48541 Born in West Boylston, Mass. Wife of Joseph L. Howe. Service: MA. Rank: Corporal. Birth: 1-6-1743 in Shrewsbury, Worcester Co, MA. Death: 8-17-1817 in Shrewsbury, Worcester Co, MA. Service Description: 1) Capt. Robert Andrews, Capt. John Maynard. 2) Col. Job Cushing. Unfortunately, it appears that another family also lays claim to this soldier's service in the Revolution, as documented in this 1905 "Genealogical and Family History of the County of Jefferson, New York," 1905 , Vol. II, pgs. 667b and 668: "Addison Wight Goodale, MD, one of the oldest and best known physicians of Jefferson County has had a varied professional career, and is now enjoying in contentment the fruits of a busy life. His ancestry has been traced to an early day in New England, and he preserves intact those qualities which were essential in settling a wilderness 3000 miles from the base of operations and inhabited by savages." "1) Robert Goodale, aged 30 years came from Ipswich, England, with his wife, Catherine and three children, to America arriving April 3, 1634 at Ipswich, MA and settled into that part of the town now Danvers. They crossed in the ship Elizabeth, William Andrews, Master. Five children were born to them after their arrival." "2) Isaac, son of Robert and Catherine Goodale, was born in 1633, in England, and died at the age of 79 years. His wife was Patience Cook." "3) Isaac (II), son of Isaac (I) and Patience (Cook) Goodale, was born March 29, 1670, and lived in Salem, where his will was proved in 1739. From this document, it is learned that his wife's name was Mary and that he had 7 children." "4) Enos, son of Isaac (2) and Mary Goodale, was born Nov. 2, 1718 in Salem. He married Mary Angier and lived in Marlborough and Shrewsbury, MA. He had three children." This next is where the difficulties begin: "5) Aaron Goodale, son of Enos and Mary (Angier) Goodale, [this next part is true] married Eunice Marshall of Holden, MA in 1767 and subsequently settled in Salem, NY." "6) Aaron Goodale of Salem, NY, married Betsy Ruggles, Feb. 9, 1802..." [There is more, but the rest I shall place under Aaron and Betsy.] Aaron, the soldier, was not a son of Enos and Mary [Angier] Goodale, he was the son of Edward and Sarah [Temple] Goodale.
