Dodges Will Codicil In the name of God, Amen I Richard Hubbard Dodge of Sutton County of Worcester & Commonwealth of Massachusetts Yeoman being in health of body & of sound mind & perfect memory blessed by Almighty God for the same, but calling to memory the mortality of this mortal body & knowing that it is appointed once for all men to die, do hereby make, ordain & appoint this my last Will & Testament, that is to say . . . Principally & first of all I give & recommend my soul into the hands of God who gave it & my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my Executor nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God; and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it have pleased God to bless me in this life . . . Imprimis: I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Joanna during her natural life & then equally to revert to my five daughters hereafter named in this will or the heirs of their bodies all my houshold furniture and indoor moveables of every description… Also the west half of my dwelling house with a right in the dooryard and to the well. I reserve however a right for my daughter Mary, as shall be hereafter devised the above real estate is devised to my beloved wife Joanna, during her natural life, also the proviso made hereafter to the said Mary; after abt which, said real estate as above described is to revert to my son Jacob Dodge, his heir & assigns forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sarah Adams & to her heirs one hundred dollars to be paid by my executor hereafter named in this will in one year after my decease. Item. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Anna Adams & her heirs one hundred dollars to be paid by my said executor in one year after my decease. Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary one hundred dollars to be paid her or her heirs in two years after my decease by my said executor also a right to live in the west part of my dwelling house with her mother, & after the decease of her mother, to live in said part of the house during her natural life if she wishes, or so long as she is a single woman & no longer, also a right in the dooryard & to the well and a right to put her household furniture in the house and there keep it, but never to have a right to let in any family into said house, & in case she should be married, to quit the presmises with her effects. Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Peckham, to be paid her or her heirs in two years after my decease the sum of one hundred dollars to be paid by my executor. Item. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Prudence Sathe to be paid by my executor in three years after my decease, to her or her heirs one hundred dollars. Item. I give, bequeath & devise unto my son Jacob Dodge one equal half of my wearing apparel & equal half of my neat stock together with the westerly half of my dwelling house with the appertenances thereunto belonging: meaning the whole of the reserve of which he hath no deed, after the death of his mother and sister Mary, or her marraige ~ the above legacies to be given to him & his heirs. The above legacies given to mty above named children, with what I have heretofore given them is their full share out of my estate. Item. I give, bequeath and devise unto my son Josiah Dodge to him and his heirs all my books, notes, documents & papers, with the one half of my wearing apparel, one half of my neat stock together with all my personal, real and mixed property which is not otherwise given or devised in this my last will and testament, which I shall die seized & possessed of upon condition that he the said Josiah Dodge shall pay all my just debts, give to me and his mother, my beloved wife Joanna at our deaths, a decent Christian burial & set up or cause to be set up at each of our graves in dur time – to each of our graves two decent gravestones and as executor of this my last will and testament, to fulfill & pay the above devised legacies & do all other things contained therein. Lastly. I constitute, ordain & appoint my son Josiah Dodge the sole executor of this my last will & testament & abrogating all others heretofore made, and ratifying & confirming this and no other to be my last will & testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this sixth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & ten. Signed, sealed, published, pronounced & declared by the said Richard Hubbard Dodge as his last will & testament in the presence of us who in hs presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses Abel Ellis Richd H. Dodge of Sutton, County of Worcester & Commonwealth of Massachusetts do this ninth day of April Anno Domini 1810 make and publish this codicil to my last will & testament in the following manner that is to say – I give unto my beloved wife Joanna, in addition to what I have given her in my last will and testament the income and use of all my notes of hand & money which I shall leave, the principle however to revert to my executor or his heirs, at her decease as is set forth more fully in my last will and testament. And whereas in my last will & testament directed my executor therein named, to pay his five sisters or their heirs, one hundred dollars each at the time aforesaid, it is now my will & I hereby direct that my son Jacob Dodge pay one equal half of said legacie as they may become one, for diverse benefits which he has received out of my estate not before considered.
