_________________________________________________________________________ To find the Davis Cemetery I needed a guide, it almost had to be an Indian guide. We traveled down Rt. 51 South, 4.6 miles past Evitts Creek to a break in the guard rail on the left side of the road which was a paved drive, all 18 feet of it. Then we just parked then went on foot. The location was the old homestead of Leonard Huff, the house was gone but the stone walk was there and several out buildings. By taking a path at the left rear corner of the property we traveled through the woods, across an old, old railroad bed to a gate post, then turning left on to a second path, approximately 100 feet up on the right is the cemetery. My search that has taunted me for years was over. The marker was found and photographed and then documented, I was looking at the other stones to be again surprised by what appears to be the marker of John Davis the father of Elizabeth Davis, wife of Leonard Huff. I wanted to share this with everyone so I wrote down all the markers that I could find, so for the Web group the following is my list: Leonard Huff , 1833 - 1915 Elizabeth Huff, 1839 - 1912 William B. Wheeler, Co. I, 179 Ohio Infantry Louisana Davis, 1877 (Infant type of maker, very difficult to read) Charles W. Wheeler, 1876 - 1939 Delilah Wheeler, 1853 - 1936 Harvey Wheeler, 1890 - 1914 Mark M. Davis, TSGT, US Army, WW II, Oct. 5, 1912 - May 7, 1981 Luke Davis, Maryland, PVT, HQ & HQ Co.6, Army Infantry, Oct 5, 1912 - May 9, 1968 Allen D. Davis, PFC, Co.E, 27 Infantry, WW I, April 19, 19[ ] - June 14, 1963 Lauretta Davis, 1877 - 1958 Charles Davis, 1862 - 1943 John Davis, Feb. 28, 1885, age 84 Y, 9 mo, 17 days (headstone is difficult to read) The propety and the cemetery has been kept clean by a gentleman that lives in a trailer house locate beside the road that leads to the Fisher Cemetery. ============= More on the Davis Cemetery From information that was obtained in the land records of Allegany County pertain to the occupants of the cemetery.
