I have chosen to list the names as I found them, without correction. If I detected the errors in the names - as ancestors, you should be able to do the same. Be sure to keep that in mind as you browse through this material. Since the C & O Canal records have only survived in bits and pieces, that is the way they must be presented here. The earliest available Payroll Records start with March 1873. Any changes will be noted with the effective date with the exception of the "Monthly Bills Paid". These were apparently bills presented by community people for services rendered to the Canal and changed from month-to-month, many names appearing only once.
