I think this is actually Thomas Johnson, grandson of Thomas Johnson, first governor of Maryland. Joshua Johnson did die about 1853. Joshua did own property in Western Maryland, west of Fort Cumberland.) AT THE REQUEST of Curtin M. Graham this deed was recorded 8 Mar 1865. THIS INDENTURE made this 21st day of February 1865 by Thomas Johnston and Juliana Johnston his wife of Allegany County Maryland of the one part and Curtin M. Graham and Sarah Wright of said county and state of the other part. WITNESSETH that the said Thomas Johnson and Juliana Johnson, his wife, in considertion of the sum of $3,000.00 do grant, bargain and sell unto the said Curtin M. Graham and Sarah Wright all those four lots or parcels of land lying and being in Allegany County in the State of Maryland, known and distinguished as Lots Numbers 571, 572, 573, 574, of the Military lots lying Westward of Fort Cumberland and which lots were surveyed for the said Thomas I. Johnson by William I. Ross, executor of Joshua Johnston, deceased. TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the said premises unto the said Curtain M. Graham and Sarah Wright, tennants in common, their heirs and assigns forever. And the said Thomas Johnson and Julia Johnson his wife for themselves, their heirs, executors and administrators do covenant promise and agree to and with the said Curtin M. Graham and Sarah Wright, their heirs and assigns that they the said Thomas Jonstone and Juliana Johnson his wife, shall and will warrant and defend the premises above granted unto the said Curtin M. Graham and Sarah Wright their heirs and assigns forever against the claims of all persons whomsoever. IN TESTIMONY thereof the said Thomas E. Johnson and Juliana Johnson his wife have hereunto subscribed their names and affixed their seals on the day and year first above written. Witness: H.E. Wade STATE OF MARYLAND, Allegany County: I hereby certify that on this 21st day of February, 1865 before the subscriber, a Justice of the Peace of the State of Maryland in and for Allegany County, personally appeared Thomas Johnson and Julianna Johnson his wife and acknowledged the aforegoing instrument of writing to be their respective act and deed.
