The house and outbuildings were supposedly situated where the the main entrance to the park is located. Caleb Lewman his estate The Right Hon'ble Henry 220 Acres, Lewman's Ramble Harford Esquire. Know Ye that for and on consideration that Caleb Lewman of Frederick County hath due unto him two hundred and twenty acres by Virtue of a Warrant for that Quantity granted him the twenty third day of October seventeen hundred and seventy three as appears on our Land Office according to Charles Lord Baron of Baltimore his Instructions to Charles Carroll Esq his (?) Agent bearing date at London the twefth Day of December seventeen hundred and twelve and Registered in our Secretarys Office of our said province. Together with a paragraph of other Instructions bearing Date at London the fifteenth Day of December seventeen hundred thirty eight and registered in our Land Office. We do therefore hereby grant unto him the said Caleb Lewman all that Tract of Land called Lewman's Ramble _ Beginning at abounded Hickory standing at the end of the (?) line of a tract of Land called Locust Thickett Surveyed for Thomas Cramphin Iam and running thence north twenty Degrees East sixty four perch. North fifty six Degrees (?) forty two Perches North twenty eight and a half Degrees East ninty two perches south eighty four Degrees East twenty one perches South sixty Degs. East forty perches South seventy three Degrees East twenty perches South three Degrees East one hundred and sixty Perches South thirty nine Degrees West one hundred and thirty six perches. Then with a straight line to the Beginning Containing two hundred and Twenty Acres of Land according to the Certificates of Survey thereof taken and returned into the Land Office bearing date the eighth Day of December seventeen hundred and seventy three and there remaining together with all Rights Profits Benefits and privileges (?) belonging Royal,Mmc's Excepted To Have and to Hold the same unto him The said Caleb Lewman his Heirs and Assigns for ever to be Holden of us and our Heir's as of our Manor of Monocacy (?) and Common (?) fealty only for all manner of Services yielding and paying therefore yearly unto us and our Heirs at our Receipt at our City of St. Marys at the two most usual feasts in the year by the feast of the Annunciation of the blessed Virgin Mary and St Michael the Arch Angel by even and equal portions the Rent of eight shillings and ten pence Sterling on Silver or Gold and for a fine upon every Alienation of the said Land or any part or parcel thereof one whole years Rent in Silver and Gold or the full Value Thereof in such Commodities as we and our Heirs or such Officer or Officers as shall be appointed by us and our Heirs from time to Time to Collect and receive the same shall assess in discharge thereof at the Choice of us and our Heir's or such Officer or Officers aforesaid Provided that if the said Sum for a fine for Alienation Shall not be paid unto us and our Heir's or such Officer or Officers aforesaid before such Alienation and the said Alienation entered upon Record either in the provincial Court or County Court where the same parcel of Lands lieth within one month next after such Alienation then the said Alienation shall be void and of no affect And provided also and it is the true Intent and Meaning of these presents that the same is subject and liable to the following Condition That is to saye that the said Caleb Lewman his Heir's and Assigns shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid the Rent herein reserved according to the Tenor of (?) presents by the space of thirty Days next after it shall become due and after (?) and made. Thereof by the Farmer or other person or persons appointed by us and our Heir's from Time to Time to Collect and receive the same shall assign in Discharge thereof.
