This Indenture Made this 18th day of June in the year of Our Lord eighteen hundred and forty between George M. Reid and Maria his Wife and Edward Hays and Cecelia his wife and Thomas Reid and Sarah his wife of Allegany County and State of Maryland of the first part and William Craver of the aforesaid County and State of the second part. Witnesseth with that the said George M. Reid and Maria his Wife and Edward Hays and Cecelia his Wife for and in consideration of the Sum of two hundred and eighty dollars current money of the United States to them the parties of the first part in hand paid by the Said party of the second part at and before the Sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof the parties of the first part do hereby acknowledge and thereof do hereby release acquit and discharge the Said pary of the Second part his heirs executors administrators and assigns by these presents they the Said parties of the first part have granted bargained and Sold aliened conveyed and Confirmed and by these presents do grant bargain and Sell alien Convey and Confirm Unto the Said party of the Second part his heirs and assigns forever all their right title interest claim and demand both at law and in equity of in and to all the lot piece or parcwel of land situate in the town of Cumberland in the County and State aforesaid and Known and distinguished On the plat of the Said town as lot number two hundred and sixty nine fronting on the east side of Mechanick Street Which by reference to Said plat Will more fully and at large appear and Which Will also more fully appear by reference to a deed from George Hoblitzell to Michael Kershner being dated the thirty first day of May 1814 and recorded in Liber G folio 373 abd 374 One of the land records of Allegany County Maryland together with all and Singular the buildings improvements rights Ways and privileges thereunto belonging. To Have and to hold the above described land and premises and every part thereof Hereby bargained and Sold to the Said party of the Second part his heirs and assigns forever and to and for his and their Only proper use and belong of and the Said parties of the first part for themselvers their heirs executors and admintrators to Covenant and agree to and With the Said party of the Second part his heirs and assigns the land and premises hereby bargained and Sold angainst them the Said parties of the first part their heirs and against all persons whatsoever Shall and Will Warrant and forever defend. In testimony thereof the Said paries of the first part have hereunto Subscribed their names and affixed their Seals the G.M.Reid (seal) day and year first herein above Maria X Reid (seal) Mentioned. Be it remembered that on the 18th day of June in the year 1840 personally appeard George M. Reid and Maria his Wife and Edward Hays and Cecelia his Wife & Thomas Reid & Sarah his Wife parties grantors in the aforegoing Deed or instrument of writing named before us two Justices of the peace in and for Allegany County and State aforesaid and acknowledged the aforegoing deed or instrument of writing to be their act and deed and the lands and premises therein bargained and Sold to be the right and estate of the party grantee also therein named according to the purport true intent and meaning thereof and the acts of assembly in Such case made and provided and that Maria Wife of Said George and Cecelia Wife of Said Edward did sign and seal this Said instrument of Writing Out of the presence and hearing of thir Said husbands they being by us two Justices as aforesaid first privately examined apart from and Out of the presence and hearing of their Said husbands Whether they do execute and acknowledge the Same freely and Voluntarily and Wihout being induced to do so by fear or threats of or ill Usage by their Said husbands or through fear of their displeasure declare and acknowledge the Same freely and Voluntarily Without being induced to do so by fear or threats of or ill Usage by their Said husbands or through fear of their displeasure We further Certify that the parties so acknowledging are personally Known to us to be the identical persons they represesent themselves to be.
