This Indenture made this twenty seventh day of January, in the year of our Lord one Thousand, eight hundred and fifty two between George M. Reid and Maria, his wife, of Allegany County and State of Maryland of the one part, and Thomas Reid of the said County and State of the other part, Witnesseth that the said George M. Reid and Maria, his wife, for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and sixty two dollars and fifty cents, current money of the United States, to them the said George M. Reid and Maria, his wife, in hand paid by the said Thomas Reid at or before the sealing or delivery of these presents, The receipt whereof the said George M. Reid and Maria, his wife, do hereby acknowledge, and thereof do release, requit and discharge the said Thomas Reid his heirs, executors and administrators by these presents, they the said George M. Reid and Maria, his wife, have given, granted, bargained and sold ... and ..., and by these presents do give, grant, bargain and sell, ..., ..., release, convey and confirm unto the said Thomas Reid, his heirs, and assigns all that piece or parcel of lot No. 269, situate and lying on South Mechanic Street, in the Town of Cumberland and contained within the following ... and bounds, courses and distances to wit: Beginning for the one lines of his said piece or parcel of ground, at the original beginning of said whole Lot (no 269) and running thence with the first line therof by a variation of one and a half degrees (1 1/2) to the right, North - forty one degrees (41), West thirty three feet (33), to the end of said first line; then across said whole lot and line parallel with the third line of said whole lot, and with a variation of one and a half (1 1/2) to the right, North, seventy one and a half degrees (71 1/2), East one hundred and seventy feet (170) to the end of a wire fence separating this part of the said whole lot, from the part of said whole lot now owned and occupied by a certain Thomas Shriver, then with said crop fence, South fourteen and a half (14 1/2) degrees, East, thirty one and a half (31 1/2) feet, to the given line of said whole lot, and with it to the beginning: together with all and singular the buildings, improvements, ways, waters, water-course rights, members, privileges, advantages and appurtenances thereto belonging, or in any wise appertaining; and all the estate, right, title and interest, trust, property, claim and demands whatsoever, at law and in Equiy of them the said George M. Reid and Maria, his wife, of in and to the same. To have and to hold, the said herein described piece of parcel of Lot No. 269, with the appurtenances therunto beonging unto the said Thomas Reid his heirs and assigns forever; And ... that the said George M. Reid and Maria, his wife, their heirs and assigns, the piece or parcel of ground and premises described and herein mentioned to be granted, bargained and sold with the appurtenances belonging, to the said Thomas Reid, his heirs and assigns, shall requit, warrant and forever defend, by these presents against the claims of all persons whomsoever. In testimony whereof said George M. Reid and Maria, his wife, have hereunto set their hands and seals, on the day and year first above written. G.M. Ainsworth State of Maryland, Allegany County, to wit: Be it rememberd and it is hereby certified, that on this twenty seventh day of January in the year of our Lord, one Thousand, eight hundred anf fifty two before the subscribers, two Justices of the Peace of the State of Maryland in and for the county aforesaid, personally appeared George M. Reid and Maria, his wife, they being known to us to be the persons who are named and described as and professing to be the party grantors to the foregoing deed or indenture and severally acknowledge the said indenture or instrument of writing to be their respective act and deed: the said Maria, the wife of the said George M. Reid, being by us examined out of the presence and hearing of her said husband "Whether she doth execute and acknowldge the same freely and voluntarily and without being induced to do so, by fear or threats of or ill usage by her husband or by fear of his displeasure", declareth and saith that she doth. In testimony whereof we hereunto subscribe our names on the day and year aforesaid. Received one dollar at the time of J. M. Strong J.P. offering the above instrument of H. H. Ainsworth J.P. record, the State of Md Stamp tax in the same. H.
