This Indenture made the Ninth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eighteen hundred and eighteen Between Thomas Reid of Allegany and State of Maryland of the one part and Henry Startzman of the County and State aforesaid of the Other part Witnesseth that the said Thomas Reid for and in Consideration of the sum of two hundred dollars Current money of the United States to him in Hand paid by the said Henry Startzman before the Sealing and delivering of these presents, the receeipt whereof he the said Thomas Reid doth hereby acknowledge and from every part and parcel thereof doth hereby acquit exonerate and discharge the said Henry Startzman his heirs executors and administrators he the said Thomas Reid hath granted Bargained and Sold, aliened and enfeoffed and confirmed and by these presents doth grant Bargain, and alien enfeoff and Confirm unto the said Henry Startzman his heirs and assigns the four following Lots or parcels of Land Situate lying and being in Allegany County aforesaid to wit Lot Number Two thousand Two hundred and twenty five, Two Thousand two hundred and Twenty Six, Two thousand two hundred and Twenty Seven and Two thousand Eight hundred and twenty Eight of the Lands Westward of Fort Cumberland Containing fifty acres each together with all and Singular the buildings improvements woods ways waters Water courses rights liberties priveledges hereditiments and appurtenances whatsoever thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining and reversions and remaindes rents issues and profits thereof, And all the Estate right title and interest whatsoever, of him the said Thomas Reid both at Law and in equity of in to and out of the said four Lots or parcels of Land and premisis hereby bargained and sold or meant in the mentioned or intended hereby so to be and every or any part and parcel thereof To Have and to hold the said described Known and distinguished by Lots Number 2225, 2226, 2227 & 2228 of the Lands westward of Fort Cumberland together with the Buildings and appurtenances and all and Singular other the premises hereby so to be and every part and parcel thereof with their and every of their appurtenances unto the said Henry Startzman his heirs and assigns forever and to and for no other use intent and purpose Whatsoever and the said Thomas Reid for himself his heirs Executors and Administrators doth hereby covenant grant promise and agree to and with the said Henry Startzman his heirs Executors Administrators Assigns that he the said Thomas Reid and his heirs the said four Lots or Parcels of Land and premises hereby granted bargained and sold, Known and distinguished by Lots Number 2225, 2226, 2227 and 2228 of the Lands Westward of Fort Cumberland Containing fifty acres each and every part and parcel thereof with the appurtenances thereunto belonging to him the said Henry Startzman his heirs and assigns against him the said Thomas Reid and his heirs shall and wife hereafter Warrant and forever defend by these presents. Witnesseth whereof the said Thomas Reid hath hereunto Subscribed his name and affixed his Seal the day and Year first herein before Written. Signed sealed & delivered in the presence of two …... Reid (seal) before signed Jn Scott Adam Sigler Maryland Allegany County to wit On this ninth day of March in he year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and Eighteen personally appears Thomas Reid of Allegany County being the party granter within named before us the Subscribers two of the State of Maryland Justices of the peace in and for the County aforesaid and acknowledges the within Deed or instrument of writing to be his act and deed and the Lands and premises therein mentioned and thereby bargained and sold to be the right and Estate of the within named Henry Startzman party grantee also therein named his heirs and assigns forever according to the purport and intent and meaning of the said Deed or Instrument of Writing and the acts of Assembly in such case made and provided. And now at the same time also appears Mary Reid wife of the said Thomas Reid before us Justices as aforesaid and acknowledges the said Deed or Instrument of writing to be her act and Deed and the Lands or premises therein mentioned to be the right and Estate of the within named Henry Startzman his heirs and assigns forever and the said Mary Reid being by us privately examined apart from and out of the hearing of her husband “Whether she doth make her acknowledgement of the same willingly and freely and without being induced thereto by fear or threats of or ill usage by her husband or fear of his displeasure acknowledges that she doth make her acknowledgement of the same willingly and freely and without being induced thereto by fear or threats of or ill usage by her husband of fear of his displeasure.
