These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organizations. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The New Coal Company DEED to Filed and Recorded on December 29, 1897 John Steele Sr. and Jane Steele at 8:01 a.m. This deed made this 23rd day of December in the year eighteen hundred and ninety seven by and between " The New Central Coal Company " of Allegany County, a corporation duly incorporated party of the first part, and John Steele Sr. and Jane Steele, his wife of Allegany County, Maryland parties of the second part. Witnessth, that for the sum of five hundred dollars ($500.00) it's receipt of which is hereby acknowledged the party of the first part does give grant, bargaining, and sell and convey unto the said parties of the second part: All that parcel of land in Allegany County, Maryland being part of the tract known as "The New Central" and more particularly described as follows: Beginning at a stone pile at the end of the 29th line of a tract called (The New Central)it being also at the end of the first line of a tract of land called (Unity) and also the end of the 19th line of a tract of land called ( Yellow Spring) and running thence with part of the 29th line of ( The New Central) which is also the 1st line of ( Unity) reversed North 25 1/2 degrees West and 1000 ft. to a planted stone 1706 ft. from the end of the twentieth and last line of ( Yellow Spring) thence North 53 degrees and 12 minutes East 822 ft. to a planted stone, thence South 36 degrees East 2000 ft. to a planted stone., thence South 52 3/4 degrees West 1500 ft to a planted stone at the end of 1150 ft. on the 30th line of ( The New Central) which is also at the end of 1150 ft. on the second line of (Unity) and also at the end of 1150 ft to the stone at the beginning. Containing Fifty Acres more or less. Together with the improvements there in and the rights, roads, ways, waters, and advantages thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining excepting, however, from the operation of this conveyance, and expressly reserving unto ( The New Central Coal Company) its successors and assigns, all the coal and other minerals in, upon or under said property, together with the right of ingress or egress upon or under said property to remove said coal or other minerals, and also reserving unto the said ( New Central Coal Company) it's successors and assigns the right to use in common with the party of the second part the roads now upon said property for all purposes. To have and to hold the same property excepting the reservations aforesaid with the said parties of the second part, their heirs and assigns in fee simple forever. And this deed further witnessth that the said "The New Central Coal Company" of Allegany County does hereby constitute and appoint Duncan Sinclair of Midlothian, Maryland to be its attorney for it and in its name and as and for its corporate act and deed to acknowledge this deed before any person having authority by the state of Maryland to take such acknowledgment to the extent that the same may be duly recorded.
