The deceased was brought here on the noon train and taken thence to Lower Green Ridge for interment. Her husband is the son of John Alderton, living on Green Ridge. She was the daughter of Samuel Robinson, living at the lower end of the county. ANDERSON 07 Feb 1898 The funeral for the late Alexander Anderson, aged 63 years, took place at Lonaconing yesterday. He was a native of Kvslyth, Scotland and had been a resident of Lonaconing for 30 years following the occupation of a miner. His aged widow and the following children survive: Mrs George Jones of Rose Farm, Morgan Co., OH; and John, Mrs Chris Hendra, Mrs George Dash; and Alexander Jr., all of Lonaconing. ASH 15 Dec 1898 Mr Thomas B Lashley has received a telegram that his nephew, Dr Thomas B Ash has died at his fathers home in Flintstone during the night. Dr Ash was a son of James Ash, a well known merchant of the area and was a promising young dentist. He was about 28 years of age. Besides his father and mother, he leaves a brother Mr Liston Ash, a clerk of JC Orrick & Son Co, and 2 sisters; Mrs Viola Dade of Washington DC and Miss Bessie Ash. The funeral is from the ME South church and burial in the IOOF Cemetery. ASH 29 May 1898 Mrs Ellen Ash, wife of Robert Ash of Juanita NE, died Sunday May 23 at her home at that place after a long illness, aged 64 years, 1 month, and 25 days. She was a daughter of the late Robert Lashley and a sister of Jacob Lashley of Flintstone and of Mrs Riley Dicken and David Lashley who live in the west. Her father was a brother of Abraham Ash; Rev Henry Ash and Mrs Hanson Dicken and is a cousin of Amos Ash of Columbia Street. The last moments of the deceased were calm an peaceful and she died in full hope of peace beyond. BARNES 23 Aug 1898 An argument between cousins Frank and Oliver Barnes escalate into a shooting at a picnic on Upper Green Ridge a few miles east of Flintstone. After a quarrel fueled by liquor, Oliver backed away and was followed by Frank, until Oliver drew a gun firing 3 shots, hitting Frank in the thigh and in the head. Oliver then escaped into Pennsylvania. 25 Aug 1898 Constable WA Hendrickson arrested Oliver Barnes in this city this afternoon on a warrant of attempted murder. He was taken before Judge Morris and committed to jail for a hearing next Saturday. 27 Aug 1898 A hearing for Oliver Barnes, jailed for attempted murder, with the result of his being recommitted to jail to await the result of wounds inflicted upon cousin Frank Barnes. He has a wound near the heart and the bullet has not yet been extracted. 31 Oct 1898 The case of the State vs. Oliver Barnes was taken up. The jury rendered a verdict of not guilty. BLUE SPRING 12 May 1898 Article of the Blue Spring near the Canada Hose Building on Mechanic Street where complaints were received and heeded of diversion of the water for the use of the Footer Dye Company. This spring is one of the pure springs around. BORDEN MINING CO 26 Aug 1898 The Borden Mining Co, one of the oldest mining companies in this area are described with a long history article of 6 paragraphs. BROWN 17 Sep 1898 Mrs Isaac Brown, aged about 55 years, died at her home in Hazen this morning. BURGER 16 Jun 1898 Mrs Matilda Burger, wife of the well known lumber dealer Mr Thomas Burger, died yesterday after an illness of several days at her late residence 41 Columbia Street. The family moved here 4 years ago from Houtzdale PA and had lived at Davis WV for some time where Mr Burger had lumber interests. Besides her husband who is also quite ill are these children; Ellwood, William, Crandell, and Levi all of Davis WV and James, Harry, Earl, and Lloyd of Cumberland. Burial is at Rose Hill Cemetery. BURKET 10 Jun 1898 Jesse Burket, one of the oldest citizens of Harrison Township, PA died at his home near Mann's Choice on Tuesday (08 Jun), aged 78 years, 3 months, 21 days. He was born in York Co on 20 Feb 1820 and was a member of the ME Church for 60 years. He was the father of 21 children. CESSNA 15 Aug 1898 Lorenzo Dowe Cessna, a prominent farmer of Cumberland Valley, died this morning aged 70 years, 10 months, and 9 days. He leaves one son, Duncan living on the farm; a daughter Allie, who married Forrest Snowden and lives at Mayview MO; a brother Weaver B Cessna of Cumberland Valley; and a sister Mrs John A Wertz of Cumberland Valley. Funeral is from the MP Church, Centreville, Rev Howard L Schlinche officiating with burial at Bethel Church Cemetery. CHRISTIE 28 Mar 1898 Mr Robert J Christie, a prominent farmer died last night at his residence on Evitts Creek, 3 miles east of Cumberland, aged 77 years. He had been ill for some time. A wife and 2 children survive: Mrs Lee Chaney and Mr Selby Christie. Funeral is from the home tomorrow with burial in Rose Hill. CUMBERLAND 23 Aug 1898 Street lights illuminate the city with 175 lights of 1200 candle power turned on. Many go to Wills Mountain to observe the city in lights. DAVIS 12 Apr 1898 Mr John Davis, one of the oldest residents of Mt Savage, died on Sunday (10 Apr). He was one of the oldest employees of the old rolling mill of MT Savage. He made the first railroad bar that was turned out of those shops and he straightened out the first bar in the shops at Johnstown. He leaves 3 daughters; Misses Ella and Anna Davis, and Mrs William Piper of Cumberland. DEAN 28 Jun 1898 Mr H. Bruce Dean, the father of Mr Thomas Dean, a driver for the Cumberland & Pennsylvania RR express wagon, died in Smithfield VA last night. He was a former resident moving there only last year to engage in farming. His body will be brought to Cumberland for burial. He leaves two brothers here, Messers Daniel F and George W Dean. He was born at Rush, a son of the late Rev. Hanson Dean, a minister of great force in his day. He was employed as a driver for Hanson Dean for several years. 01 Jul 1898 The funeral of H Bruce Dean, whose remains arrived on train #1 last night, took place from the train. A large number of persons were at the ceremony. The moon furnished the only light, which was quite bright and interment was made with no trouble. Rev J M Yingling conducted the services, "Rock of Ages" was sung and the ceremonies were quite impressive. It is one of the few moonlight funerals ever known to have taken place in this section. DENNISON 16 Jul 1898 Levi Dennison died last night at the residence of Thomas Furlough near Twiggtown after a short illness, aged about 75 years. He was a Union Veteran and drew a pension. He was a noted hunter and an expert shot. He was not married. The funeral is tomorrow from Mt Harmon church on the Williams Road. DEREMER 11 Mar 1898 Mr John Deremer, aged about 68 years, died at his home near Centreville PA after an illness of several weeks. He was a lifelong member of the MP Church and a member of the IOOF. DEREMER 22 Nov 1898 Mr Jacob Deremer died yesterday at his late residence near Mattie, Bedford County, in his 87th year. He leaves his wife, 5 boys and 5 girls; Lucy and Katie Deremer of Lancaster PA; Mary Deremer of Philadelphia; Martha and Laura at home; and William, Wesley, and Josiah in Ohio; Henry of Colorado; and Franklin Deremer of near Mattie. Mr Deremer is a native of Cumberland Valley and leaves 2 brothers, Peter and William Deremer and 3 sisters of Cumberland Valley. The funeral is from the Union MP Church. DOWDEN 28 Jun 1898 Mrs Nancy Dowden died last night at her late residence at Alaska WV, aged 70 years. She was the wife of Mr James Dowden, a prominent man in that section. She was well known, a sister-in-law of George F Dowden and an aunt of the Register of Wills, A H Dowden. She leaves her husband and these children: Mrs William Adams, Mrs Hawkins, Mrs Sarah Kerns, and Miss Maggie Dowden and also, Charles and James Dowden- all of Alaska. The funeral is tomorrow morning. DUNCAN 17 Feb 1898 Daniel Duncan died at Point Pleasant WV last Monday (14 Feb) in his 86th year. He was well known to local residents and was a sheriff here in 1865 and at one time kept the Palmer House, now known as the Tremont on S Mechanic St. During the war he was a recruiting officer and also was in the wagon and carriage making business here. He leaves 2 daughters; Mrs David Fletcher of Rush; and Mrs John McElfish of Little Valley Road. The funeral took place on Tuesday at Point Pleasant. FLETCHER 13 Aug 1898 Courtney Fletcher worked on a farm in Garrett Co. A cow got into an orchard and to have revenge, he chopped off the cows tail while another fellow held the cow. Sheriff Lee of Garrett Co and Constable Hendrickson were called to go after Fletcher who lives in Piney Grove. Fletcher did not go home but instead went to Crawford's store, 25 miles from here, and left his valise at the store as he fled into Pennsylvania. The officers waited all night and early this morning arrested Mr Courtney Fletcher as he returned for the valise. They returned to Garrett Co with the prisoner. 25 Aug 1898 Young Courtney Fletcher and Mr Glotfelty, who were arrested on the charge of cutting off a cow's tail in Garrett Co, have been released. No evidence was brought forward to convict them of the crime. GANNON 29 Dec 1898 Barton MD- A pretty wedding united Bertha E Gannon, daughter of Mr & Mrs Thomas Gannon to William Philpot at 4 pm on the 27th inst. at the home of the bride's parents, Rev Conway officiating. ( article has 3 paragraphs) GEORGES CREEK RR 31 Aug 1898 An article by Thomas Brown of 8 paragraphs length about the George's Creek and Cumberland Railway. HAMILTON 27 Jun 1898 Miss Rose Hamilton, daughter of Mr James Hamilton, the baggage master of the B & O living on Emily Street of the city and Mr J Syne Hastings, publisher of the paper "Uncle Sam" which is no longer published here, were married in Washington on Thursday (23 Jun). Her trip to Washington was ostensibly to visit and the marriage was a complete surprise to her friends here. HARDINGER 25 Nov 1898 Hiram Hardinger died yesterday at his residence 3 miles out on the main Bedford Road. He had been ill 4 or 5 weeks. He leaves a widow and 7 children: Theodore, Edwin, Nannie V.. and Lilly all at the home place and grown except Edwin who is 13 years of age. Thomas lives on an adjoining farm; Elmira is married to Filler Zembower and Sarah is married to Mac Sliger, both of Cumberland Valley. Another daughter, Mary was married to Ellsworth Brotemarkle and died several years ago. He leaves one brother, Daniel Hardinger of Springfield IL. Interment is at Centenary Church with the sermon by Rev Howard Schlincke. ( 6 paragraph story). HARDMAN 03 Aug 1898 Mrs Sarah M Hardman, 76 Bedford Street, died this morning, surrounded by friends and relatives. She was the last of the family of Jonathan A Hendrickson, a pioneer of this county, who established a woolen mill on a cleared farm at the source of Bottle Run. Four brothers and three sisters constituted the family of whom Mrs Hardman was a sole survivor. She was 71 years of age and a constant member of the ME Church. She married Henry Hardman, who died in 1872 and leaves but one of her own family, an adopted daughter Ree. All members of her family lived to old age except a crippled sister. ( 7 paragraph story) HARDMAN 13 Oct 1898 Miss Audrey May Hardman, a daughter of Levi Hardman and Mr Ellsworth Brotemarkle a son of Mr Michael Brotemarkle married last night at the home of the bride, 6 miles out on the Bedford road, Rev HL Schlineke officiated. HARTSOCK 10 Nov 1898 Flintstone MD- Mr John Hartsock died this morning at the residence of a grand-daughter, Mrs John Oster on Flintstone Creek, with whom he resided. He was born in the Cumberland Valley and came to this area with his father Frederick Hartsock at the age of 4 years. His father settled upon what is now the farm owned by Acme Wilson, where they lived upon for many years. He was married twice and had a large family all by his first wife, a daughter of the late "Squire" Jasper Robinette. The children are; Mrs Peter Deremer, Mrs Barney Fletcher, Mrs John Wigfield, Mrs John McDonald, Mrs John Hutsler, Amy Hartsock deceased, Henry H Hartsock of Cumberland, and C Wilson Hartsock of Iowa. Mr Hartsock was 85 years, 7 months of age. The funeral is at the MP Church near the "Stone House" on Thursday with interment in the burying ground back of the church. HENDRICKSON 23 Aug 1898 Charles F Burley and Miss Bertha Hendrickson of Davis WV married Monday in this city by Rev JM Yingling. The bride is a daughter of Scott Hendrickson who is known here. HENDRICKSON 19 May 1898 Ira B Hendrickson, son of Summerfield Hendrickson of 82 Bedford Street, died last night, aged 21 years. He had been ill for 9 weeks with a tumor in the brain. He was an employee of the WV Central RR and leaves a brother, Charles and a sister, Miss Anna. Interment at Union Grove on Friday morning. HENDRICKSON 02 Nov 1898 Mr Charles Howard Hendrickson, a son of Mr Thornton Hendrickson, a prosperous farmer living 4 miles out on the Baltimore Pike and Miss Nancy Wentling, a daughter of Mr John Wentling, residing on the Williams road near this city were married this afternoon at the Parsonage of Rev CJ Yost. HINKLE 17 Jan 1898 Leonard Hinkle, aged 72 years, residing on the Baltimore Pike several miles out, died yesterday from paralysis. He leaves a wife and several children: Mrs Edward Elliott of Wheeling WV; Mrs James Beall of Cumberland; Mrs Perry Robinette of near Mt Pleasant Church; Mrs William House on the Baltimore Pike; Frank Hinkle of near Cumberland; Harry Lee and Annie Hinkle at home. Brothers and sisters now living: John F Hinkle of Bedford St, Cumberland; Rev Richard Hinkle of York PA; Rev George B Hinkle of Reno NV; Mrs E B Crawford of Cumberland. The funeral is tomorrow from the home with burial at Mt Pleasant Cemetery. HYMES 27 Apr 1898 "Aunt" Linney Hymes, a maiden woman living with her brother George Hymes in the Pratt area of the county died on Saturday (23 Apr), aged 75 years. She was reared a Methodist and a member of that church until recently when she renounced her membership and joined the Mormon's. The Mormon's have visited here in that area of the county for several years and have erected a temple at Pratt and have made many converts. IMES 26 Aug 1898 Article about a murder of Hiram Imes, 20 years ago in Jan 1880. Mrs Harry Wills reveals this fact which is collaborated by Mrs William Browning. The house was entered and the family robbed after beating Mr Imes and throwing him into the canal. (8 paragraph story ). KEEFER 01 Feb 1898 An infant corpse was dug up by dogs near Beard Station below Magnolia on a hill and later found by timber cutters of the area. They learned that the infant was alive only 20 minutes and smothered by the mother Magdalene Keefer to hide her shame. Miss Keefer lives at Seven Mile Bottom and is a daughter of Michael Keefer. 07 Feb 1898 Nancy Keefer was charged with infantcide after the body of a small child was dug up by dogs near Little Orleans. Hannah Keefer, her mother was charged with complicity in the crime. LEASURE 30 Apr 1898 Mrs Polly Leasure died this morning near Hazen, aged 90 years. Aunt Polly was one of the oldest citizens of Bedford County PA. Funeral services from the home tomorrow with interment at Bald Hill Cemetery. LEASURE 23 Sep 1898 Charles H Leasure died last night at bottle Run, aged 19 years. He was the son of Mr Summerfield Leasure. The funeral took place from the Centenary Church. MAREAN 13 Jun 1898 Mr Everett Marean died at the home of a daughter near Washington DC at Brookland on Saturday (10 Jun). He was born in Lackawanna Co PA 58 years ago. He was with the Delaware and Lackawanna and Western RR for a while. He came here in 1873 as general agent for the B & O RR, serving for 5 years. Then, he became master of transportation for the George's Creek and Cumberland R R until his death. He was twice married, Miss Radle with whom 7 children were born, and his 2nd wife who survives was a Miss Shuck. Children still living are: John S at Alford PA; Albert; Raymond; and Mrs Gibbs, Mary, Fannie, and Margaret all at Brookland. Two brothers, Morel Marean, manager of the Western union Telegraph at Washington DC and Delzene Marean who also works for the same company; and also two sisters, Miss Francene Marean, telegraph operator for the Treasury Department in Washington DC and Miss Ellen Marean at Brookland. The funeral is from the home today at Centre & Valley streets and interment in Rose Hill Cemetery. MILLER 20 Jul 1898 Mrs Mary Ann Miller, widow of the late Daniel Miller of Clear Ridge, died Saturday morning ( 15 Jul), aged 70 years. She was a sister to the ex-commissioner Hezekiah Barkman of Bedford County and an aunt of Mr Basil Browning of Independence Street and was also related to the Soyster family. NAVE 28 Jul 1898 Mrs Anna Nave, wife of George Nave, died this morning at her late residence, 1 mile west of Centreville, aged 60 years. Mrs Nave was the mother of 11 children, 10 still living: E W Naveof near Cumberland; SS Nave, Jacob Nave, CC Nave, RD Nave, OP Nave, and Mrs AL Hafer all of Centreville; Mrs Schade Casteel, Mrs CC Wertz, and Mrs Nooner Wertz -all of Cumberland Valley. The funeral is from the home and burial in the Lutheran Cemetery of Cumberland Valley. O'NEAL 16 Feb 1898 Emmanuel O'Neal, a well known miller by trade died near Scotsdale PA, aged about 65 years. He was a brother of Bernard and Hezekiah O'Neal, both deceased of Chaneysville PA .where they were raised. Mr O'Neal was an itinerant miller being a tenant of many of the mills in this county. PAPE 11 May 1898 Henry Pape, a well known miner at Eckhart, dropped dead at his residence this morning while on his way to breakfast. He had not been well for some time but it was not thought his condition was serious. He was 60 years of age and leaves a wife and 7 children. He was well known in the city and a hard working man. PERDEW 22 Apr 1898 Mr Nathan Perdew died in Decatur Co, IA on March 31, aged 76 years, 4 months, and 6 days. The funeral was held in Leon IA. He was born in Bedford CO, PA on 25 Nov 1821 and he married Mary Blair in the fall of 1850 and moved to Lee Co in 1851, and on to Decatur Co in 1856. He was one of the 49ers who went to California. He is survived by 3 sons and 3 daughters and some relatives still in Bedford Co.. He was a member of the ME Church since 1839. A brother was Archibald Perdew of Bedford CO who is the father of Prof George E Perdew. He was also a brother of the 2nd wife of the late J R M Hendrickson who lived east of the city. RICE 25 Mar 1898 Mr Conda Rice, saw mill operator and owner at Robinsonville, Bedford Co, PA was killed yesterday sawing laths when one caught in the teeth of the saw and in some manner hurled with tremendous force striking Mr Rice in the head killing him instantly. A similar incident killed Mr William Bishop a year or two ago. ROBINETTE 27 Jun 1898 Mrs Mary Robinette died at Flintstone on Sunday morning ( 26 Jun), aged 71 years. She was the wife of the late Jasper Robinette. She leaves daughters, Mrs Charles Nelson of Flintstone and Mrs Thomas Wilson of Rush; and sons, Augustine of Washington DC; and DW Robinette of Rush. The funeral is from the home and interment at the IOOF Cemetery at Flintstone. ROBINETTE 08 Oct 1898 Dr Albert J Robinette, formerly of this county and now of Dallas TX, a son of the late George Robinette, who used to conduct a tannery at Flintstone, committed suicide on the 24th of last month. This information is received by a letter to Mr William H Robinette of Flintstone from his sister Mrs Marion, wife of Dr Perry of Russellville KY. Dr Robinette was a « brother to Dr TP Robinette of Flintstone. He went west some years ago settling in Dallas TX with a lucrative business. ROBINSON 07 Feb 1898 Colonel John Armstead Robinson died yesterday after an illness that confined him to his home on Patterson's Creek, 7 miles below Cumberland. He was born in Printytown, Taylor Co., VA on 18 Nov 1830, and thus, was over 67 years old. He was in the Civil War serving the Confederacy in Co. A; 25th Reg. VA Inf. And had his coat tail torn off by a cannon ball in Picketts Charge at Gettysville. In 1854, he married Miss H P McNary of Cumberland, who died several years ago. He is survived by 3 children, Claude E Robinson, J. Hunter Robinson, and Mrs J Humbird Smith. Also survived by brother, Capt. William J Robinson of Parkersburg and sister, Mrs Ison. The funeral is tomorrow from the MP Church at Patterson's Creek, Pastor, Rev Mitchell officiating with burial in Frankfort Cemetery. SHIPLEY 08 Feb 1898 Henry P Shipley, aged 75 years, of near Little Orleans, died Saturday (05 Feb) of dropsy. He had been a soldier in the Mexican War under Capt. White and later under Capt. Dodge and also his marine group saw service in Havana, Cuba and San Jacincto, Mexico. After the war was over, he married widow Ashkettle of Little Orleans who had no children. The current Mrs Shipley, a former Ammy Deneen is now a second widow and 89 years of age. The late George Deneen of Cumberland was a brother to Mrs Shipley. Children of the first marriage are James & John Ashkettle of Orleans; Mrs George Dyche of Magnolia; Mrs Charles Hamilton of Orleans; Mrs George W Appel of Orleans; Mrs David Keefer of near Paw Paw. The interment was made in the family burying ground on Monday and preached by Rev Thomas of Paw Paw. SHIPLEY 23 Sep 1898 Miss Cora Shipley, Orleans Crossroads, a daughter of John R Shipley, died and the funeral was at Camp Hill Cemetery, near Paw Paw WV on Friday 16 Sep 1898. SMITH 10 May 1898 Philip Smith of Whipp's Cove created a sensation on Friday night (6 May). His mind is affected and a watch had been placed over him, but he managed to elude them and escape. A search party was convened and he was found by his nephew, Lemuel Smith dead in a cleft of rocks, 3/4 of a mile from his home. He had placed a revolver in his mouth and blew his head off. He was an old soldier in the 158th Reg. PAV Inf. And was pensioned at $8 per month. He used the souvenir revolver from the war in his death. SPARKS 28 Jun 1898 Joseph H Sparks, age 52 years, a clerk of a hotel in Clearfield PA and from Clearville and Miss Georgie E Casteel, aged 19 years, daughter of a farmer at Clearville were married at the Tremont Hotel this afternoon. STALLINGS 17 May 1898 Mr Thomas Stallings was in town today and told of a thrilling experience of three farmers in the Patterson's Creek area this morning. Thomas Middleton, Lev Twigg, and a man whose name has not yet been learned. The three men, farmers living in the neighborhood of Patterson's Creek, attempted to cross the Potomac River in a row boat when it capsized. The river was swollen and 10 feet deep and flowing rapidly. Mr Middleton could not swim and the man who could swim managed to seize him as he was sinking and later on shore was able to revive him after he was thoroughly rolled. Mr Twigg caught a willow limb and kept above the water until Mr Stallings could reach him in a boat. It has been subsequently learned that the man who saved Middleton's life was William Kirby, employed at Patterson's landing, loading cross ties. [8 paragraph story] TERRELL 01 Nov 1898 Mrs A. Nancy Terrell, aged 90 years, died at the residence of her son RH Arnold of 132 Greene St. She was twice married; 1st husband, Mr Hardin Arnold was a well known engineer for the B & O on the Parkersburg branch line who was killed by the cars in 1859 after having been married for 20 years. Four children were born, 2 of which survive; RH Arnold, an engineer of the WV Central RR and Mrs Martha Davis of Oldtown MD. Her 2nd husband, Mr James H Terrell has been connected with the C & O canal all of his life. She was connected with the Baptist church and had relatives in Mt Savage, Oldtown, and Keyser. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. TRIEBER 13 May 1898 Mrs Belle E Trieber died May 11 at the home of her son Horace Lee Trieber at Memphis TH. She was the widow of the late Michael E Trieber, once proprietor of the Old Revere Ho use, now a wholesale grocery house run by the Kenneweg Co. She was the daughter of the rev Mr Collins, a Methodist minister. She was an aunt of Mr George W Grossman, Mrs Otho Hewitt and on Charles and Howard Trieber of this city. Four sons and a daughter survive: Michael C; Franklin B; Horace Lee; John Wilson Trieber and Miss Alice Trieber. Last summer, Mrs Trieber spent the season at the Flintstone Hotel and had planned to repeat the visit this summer. TWIGG 04 Aug 1898 Mr Elza Twigg and Miss Bertha Fulk of Bayard WV married at the Tremont Hotel yesterday evening by Rev JM Yingling. TWIGG 18 Jul 1898 Two brothers, Henry and Willie Twigg, living along Fifteen Mile Creek, were killed by lightning yesterday returning home from Sunday School. A thunder shower came up and the boys sought shelter by a locust tree which was struck by lightning killing them instantly. TWIGG 31 May 1898 Dr J A Twigg, a physician at 111 Virginia Avenue, died this morning, age 33 years. A graduate of Maryland Medical College of Baltimore, he was at one time the surgeon in charge at Western Maryland Hospital, before establishing a practice in South Cumberland. He had been ill for 3 weeks. His wife of 5 weeks is Miss Jane Maud Boetler of Petersburg MD. Also surviving are parents, Mr & Mrs Francis Twigg of Williams Road; brothers and sisters, Dr W F Twigg of Cumberland; C B Twigg; Torrlyson M Twigg and Alvey Twigg of Williams Road; Mrs Mary J Dicken of Levels WV; Mrs Columbus Knight of Williams Road; Mrs Hattie L Hinkle and Mrs Hanson Dean of Cumberland; and Miss Laura Twigg, who lived with the deceased. Funeral services from the residence on Thursday with interment in Rose Hill. WALTERS 31 Oct 1898 Mr Albert Walters died Friday (28 Oct) at his late residence at Flintstone, aged 27 years. He leaves a wife and 2 children. He was a son of David Walters and was well known. The funeral took place yesterday and was largely attended. WELSH 23 Jul 1898 Matilda Welsh, wife of William Welsh, died yesterday at her home at Hazen from a stroke of paralysis, aged 59 years. She had experienced two prior strokes. Surviving are a husband and 2 sons, Olen and Allston and also 2 daughters, Miss Rose Welsh and Mrs M Oliver of White's Tannery. One daughter, Napler is deceased. A daughter of Michael Hall, she also leaves 4 brothers, Henry and Wesley Hall of Hazen; Peter W Hall of Mt Savage; and Jackson Hall of Cleveland; and also 3 sisters, Mrs Grafton Brant and Mrs Ben Brant of Hazen; and Mrs Sallie Brant of Cumberland; one deceased brother, James Hall and 4 deceased sisters, Emma, Louisa, Dinati, and Mrs Dennis Yants of Mt Savage. The funeral is at Centenary Church, Rev Howard Schlincke officiating. WILLISON 23 Mar 1898 A wedding at the Cariton Church at Wolfe's Mills- Miss Othelia Belle Willison, a daughter of John W Willison and Thomas Jefferson Dawson, by Rev Schooley of Flintstone. WILSON 18 Jul 1898 Mrs Hugh Wilson, aged 75 years, died this morning at Flintstone. Interment at the Frame Church near Chaneysville, Bedford County. He was a member of the Reformed Church. Mr Wilson was her 2nd husband, the first being Andrew Steckman. Her maiden name was Snider. WINEBRENNER 11 Apr 1898 Morris Winebrenner, a miner was killed on Saturday (09 Apr) in Ocean Mines by a fall of breast coal. He was a only son of George Winebrenner, a well known express man of this city. He lived at Frostburg and was 31 years of age. He leaves a wife and one child. The funeral is tomorrow with burial in Rose Hill. WOLFORD 17 Dec 1898 Information has been received here of the death of Mrs Ailey M Wolford at Lone Tree IA. Mrs Wolford was born in Allegany County on 20 Dec 1815, being in her 83rd year. Her maiden name was Davis. On 11 Oct 1831, she was married to Mr Benjamin Wolford, a brother of Daniel Wolford near this city. She was the mother of 13 children 11 boys and 2 girls. In 1856 she and her husband moved to Ohio, but after the death of her husband in 1865, she moved to Iowa. WOLFORD 23 Feb 1898 Hiram Wolford died last evening at his home, 8 miles out on the Baltimore Pike. Mr Wolford was born in Bedford Co, PA on 30 Mar 1819 and in 1824, his parents moved to Allegany Co, MD, where he has lived ever since. He died on the farm where he had lived for over 55 years. He was a faithful member of the Fairview Church where he was an official and attended for half a century. A wife and 3 daughters survive: Mrs Lloyd Bucy; Mrs Summerfield Hinkle; and Mrs William Brant. Only one brother, Mr Daniel Wolford Sr, 82 years old, survives. The funeral services was from the Wolford home on Martin's Mountain, Rev Howard L Schlineke preached at the Fairview Church and burial in the IOOF cemetery. WOLFORD 07 Mar 1898 Mrs. Frank Wolford committed suicide with a .38 calibre revolver at her home yesterday. Mrs Wolford was about 35 years of age and leaves her widower and 5 young children, the youngest about 1 year old. She was the daughter of Mr George Schlund, a gardner living near the Wolford residence. Two brothers, George and Henry Schlund of this city; and 3 sisters, Mrs George H Tlip of Washington DC; Mrs John Dreyer and Miss Rebecca Schlund of Cumberland. Burial will be at the Lutheran Church on Centre Street. WOLFORD 05 Sep 1898 Death notice from the Lone Tree Reporter of Johnson Co, IA. James B Wolford, born in Allegany Co MD, on 03 May 1837, and died 01 Sep 1898, at age 61 years, 3 months, and 28 days. He moved to Ohio 1856-1869 and thence to Iowa where he lived until his death. He married Louisa Wallingford on Aug 27, 1879, who was by his side for his ten day illness. He leaves her, his mother, and 7 brothers. Mr Wolford was a nephew of Daniel Wolford of Cumberland. ZIMMERLY 16 Feb 1898 Richard Lawrence Zimmerly of North Branch, died yesterday from a stroke suffered some weeks ago, aged 66 years. He leaves a widow and 7 children: Argyle Zimmerly, a conductor of the B & O; Edward and Owen at home; Ida the wife of Selby Christie; Mary the wife of Lincoln Furlow; Amy the wife of Thomas Crabtree and Miss Condie at home.
