He was in his 85th year and death was due to grippe. He was a well known farmer and his wife died 3 years ago. The funeral is Thursday from the residence. BARRETT 27 Apr 1899 Mrs Lizzie Barrett, wife of August M Barrett Jr, died suddenly yesterday afternoon at her home in Bean's Cove, aged 32 years. She was the daughter of Mr John Kolb of this city. She leaves a family of 3 boys. Interment is at Bean's Cove. BARRETT 06 Feb 1899 Mrs Elizabeth Barrett died on Saturday evening (Feb 4) at his residence at Beans Cove, aged 62 years. The deceased was a wife of August Barrett who once lived in the city and a member of the city council. His death was caused by grippe. Surviving children are: Mrs John Brooks of the city; Mrs Hollenberger and August M Barrett of Bean's Cove. The funeral is from the Catholic Church in Beans Cove and interment in the cemetery adjoining the church. BOOR 30 Mar 1899 Patience PA- Francis M Boor died at the home of her brother, Tobias Boor near Patience in Cumberland Valley Township on Tuesday 27 March of heart failure, aged 42 years. Survivors are 5 brothers and 5 sisters; Tobias, Samuel, Henry, William, Mrs Thomas Elliott, Amanda, Eliza and Ellen all of the valley; Mrs Frank Morgart of near Schellsburg and James Boor of Bedford PA. The funeral is Thursday with interment at Union Chapel Cemetery near Burning Bush. BROWNING 16 Jan 1899 Miss Eliza Browning, sister of Basil Browning of this city, died at her home near Hewitt PA on Saturday (14 Jan ). She was a very large woman and a casket of unusual size had to be obtained for her remains. She was a daughter of the late Levi Browning of Bedford County and was about 50 years of age. BUCY 20 Oct 1899 Mrs Mary Bucy, a widow living at "Prosperity", nine miles east of the city, died last night, aged 75 years. She leaves the following children: Mrs William Runkle of Frederick Street; Mrs Charles Boor of "Prosperity"; and Mrs Emma Yeagan of Minnesota. The funeral is tomorrow from the home with interment in the German Beneficiary Cemetery. CASSIDY 23 Mar 1899 John C Crawford and Elizabeth Cassidy, both of Mt Savage have taken out marriage licence in Cumberland. CHRISTIE 28 Feb 1899 Mrs Mary J Christie, wife of the late Robert Christie, died at her residence this morning on th Christie Road, 3 « miles east of the city. She was a devout member of the M P Church for 50 years. She is survived by children; Mrs Lee Chaney and Mr Selby Christie. The funeral is Thursday from the home and interment in Rose Hill. CREUTZBURG 02 May 1899 Henry Creutzburg was appointed guardian of John Preston of Allegany County in Orphan's Court. DAY 10 Mar 1899 Mrs Rebecca Day, aged 61 years, died at the home of a nephew, Mr George Capp near the Braddock distillery on Wednesday (8 Mar) after a lingering illness. The remains were sent to South Branch and will be taken thence tomorrow 12 miles to the country where interment will be made. DEREMER 05 Jan 1899 Peter Deremer, one of the oldest citizens of Cumberland Valley died yesterday, aged 78 years. He was a lifetime member of the M P Church. He is survived by children: Joseph C; William J; Mary C McClelland; George W; John V; Mrs Ida Nave; Mrs Martha E Hite; Mrs Theresa Geirle; Samuel G; and Harry R Deremer. Henry Deremer of Alaska WV is an ex commissioner of Mineral County WV. The funeral is tomorrow at the house and burial in the Smith Graveyard, Rev H L Schlencke officiating. DICKEN 20 Apr 1899 John Dicken Sr died yesterday morning at home in Cumberland Valley after an illness of 4 months, aged 84 years. The funeral is tomorrow at the Fellowship M P Church, Rev H L Schlinake officiating. He leaves a widow 85 years of age and a large family of grown children: Mrs Daniel Evans of Hyndman; Mrs James Hardinger, and Mrs George S Hite of Hale; Mrs Alice Zembower, a widow who lives with her mother; Thomas W Dicken of Winfield KS; J Clark Dicken of Cumberland Valley; and Charles F Dicken of Washington DC. Deceased are one son George; and Mrs Anthony Lowery of Creize PA and Mrs Henry Miller of Hyndman. Mrs Dicken, the widow is a sister to the late Samuel Elliott of the Cumberland Valley. EVANS 10 Jul 1899 Captain Nathan C Evans died suddenly on Saturday (8 Jul) at his home in Everett, aged about 65 years. He was prominent in Bedford County as a Justice of the Peace for many years, a member of the Pennsylvania legislature for several years and was a small store owner. He served in the army during mos th the Civil War and was taken prisoner and suffered in Andersonville and Libby prisons living on a pint of corn meal and water for some length of time. Captain Evans was married to Miss Folck who survives him with several children. EVANS 29 Jun 1899 Mr Thomas B Lashley, well known merchant of this city, and Miss Carrie Miller Evans, daughter of Captain Samuel Evans were married last evening at the home of the bride on Davidson Street, by Rev Dr C Herbert Richardson. Miss Leah Lashley, daughter of the groom and Mr J Brady Evans, brother of the bride were attendants. After a tour of Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, and Niagara Falls they will return via Pittsburgh and reside at 12 Glenn St, Cumberland. EVANS 25 Mar 1899 Mrs Belle Evans, wife of R Carter Evans, died yesterday at the residence 281 N Centre St, after a long illness from a complication of diseases, aged 37 years. Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter Lena, aged 6 years. She was the daughter of William Leonard of this city; and a sister of the following: Thomas A Leonard; Charles E Leonard; and Misses Lizzie and Maggie Leonard of this city; Mrs John Ruth of Carmichael PA; Mrs Web B Long of near Cumberland; and William Leonard of Pittsburgh. The funeral is tomorrow from the home and burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Rev Gutelius of St Mark's officiating. FURLONG 27 Dec 1899 B & O freight conductor, James Furlong lost his life at work at the Oldtown Crossing where he fell and the train ran over him. He lived at North Centre Street and leaves a wife and child. He was a son of Nicholas Furlong and was about 32 years of age. Also surviving are brothers John and Joseph Furlong and sister Mrs John Humbird. Funeral at St Patrick's and interment at Sts Peter & Paul Cemetery. GLICK 25 Mar 1899 Mr John Glick died today aged 85 years. Born in Bavaria Germany on 25 Jan 1815, he came to this country 55 years ago settling in Cincinnati OH, later removed to Bedford PA, coming to this city in 1854, where he lived until his death. A blacksmith by trade until 17 years ago when he engaged in merchandising with his son Joseph on N. Centre Street. He was the father of 7 children, 2 of whom are deceased. Living children are; George, Joseph, Harry and Misses Mary and Lucy Glick; all of this city. Also surviving are his wife and a step-son, William Kornhoff. The funeral is Tuesday from St's Peter & Paul. GRUBER 23 May 1899 Mr Henry Gruber, who as the successor of Mr T Walter Long, has been very successful in the grocery business on N Centre Street and has determined to relocate with his uncle in California. He has sold his stock and good will to Mr Henry S Frost. GRUBER 27 Nov 1899 Letter from Henry W Gruber, visiting with relatives and touring the west. He relates the sights of the west in colorful narration. Two full columns on pages 1, and 4. HAMILTON 22 Apr 1899 Mrs Millar Hamilton died last night at her home 31 Park Avenue, aged 31 years. Fifteen months ago, she was a happy bride and a few months ago she moved into a home and took pride in furnishing it in an up to date fashion. Then came the disease and the knowledge that she could not live long. She was a Miss Majors of Barton prior to marriage and was the principal of Rockville school for 9 years. Besides her husband, an infant about 2 months survives her. The funeral is tomorrow with burial in Rose Hill. HAMILTON 06 Jun 1899 Mr John E Hamilton, aged 35 years, a prominent railroad man, died at his residence on Emily Street today. He was a member of the Chosen Friends Lodge #34 IOOF, a Mason, a prominent Knights of Pythias member, and a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen and a brakeman on # 46. He married to Miss Seamon. The funeral from St Mark's Church, Park Avenue with burial in Rose Hill cemetery, Rev Gutalius officiating. HAMILTON 20 Jun 1899 The 6 month-old child of Millar Hamilton, this city, died at Barton yesterday. The child's mother died 2 months ago and since that time has been cared for by the grandmother in Barton. The funeral is Wednesday with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery. HARDMAN 26 Apr 1899 A pot filled with gold and silver coin was located during plowing of Mrs Ellen Hardman's farm at Mapleside. The place was marked with a flag stone and near the William's Road on land formerly owned by Mr James Anderson as far back as 1840. ( 8 paragraph story) HICKLE 20 Sep 1899 Marriage of Emma Hickle, daughter of Mr J P Hickle of Folcks Mills and Samuel Shipley of Piney Grove by Rev Yingling. HINKLE 06 Oct 1899 Summerfield Hinkle, while operating his sawmill at Rush yesterday, had all of his remaining fingers on his right hand sawed off. One was off from before. HOWSARE 18 Feb 1899 Mrs Catherine Howsare, widow of the late Asa Howsare died at Chaneysville, aged 88 years. She was the mother of Joshua Howsare the proprietor of the Union Hotel of Chaneysville and of Wesley Howsare of Mt Savage. Rev Daniel Howsare of Versailles Ohio is a grandson. IAMES 22 Jun 1899 Mr Albert Iames of Barton and Miss Sadie Summerfield of Rainsburg PA, Bedford County were married in Bedford on Wednesday 21 Jun3 1899 at the residence of Rev ML Culler. Mr Iames was a former resident of Chaneysville. IRONS 20 Mar 1899 James Irons, a B & O brakeman living in South Cumberland was killed at Terre Alta this morning about 30 years of age. He was engaged in coupling cars, dropped a couple pin, and in picking it up, the cars rammed together impaling him in the chest. He leaves a wife and 3 children. His remains will arrive on the No 46 train. The funeral is tomorrow from the home on Daughtery Avenue with interment in N Branch at the Clay Hill Cemetery, Rev Gardner officiating. JAMES CLARK DISTILLERY BUILDING 15 Jul 1899 Building of the James Clark Distillery building to occupy numbers 47, 49, and 51 Baltimore Street. (Two column article with photo) KNIGHT 30 Aug 1899 Mrs Mathilda Knight, relict of the late Jesse Knight, died last night at the residence of her son John, on the Williams Road, 3 miles out from the city, aged 82 years. She was a member of the Methodist church all of her life. Her death was due to old age. She leaves 2 other children; Columbus also on the Williams Road and Floyd Knight of Keyser WV. LASHLEY 20 Mae 1899 Mrs Louisa Lashley, wife of Joseph Lashley, a merchant at Flintstone, died yesterday, aged 75 years. Her death was caused by cancer that appeared 3 months ago and from which she suffered terribly during the last days of her illness and had to be kept under the influence of opiates. She was a member of the M E Church and was noted for her hospitality. Besides her husband are 5 married children: Thomas B of this city; Charles G and John of Davis WV; William Lashley and Mrs James Ash of Flintstone. The funeral is tomorrow from the M E Church of Flintstone, Rev George Harris of Eckhart officiating with interment in the family burying ground. LINABURG 26 Dec 1899 Mrs Rosa Linaburg died suddenly at her home near Little Orleans, aged 63 years. Twenty years ago while on the way to church, her husband was struck by a train and killed. She was born in Washington and leaves 2 brothers; Henry and George Appell. The funeral was last Saturday Dec23 and interment near Doe Gulley Tunnel. LYNCH 14 Sep 1899 Mt Savage- Mrs Michael Lynch died on Saturday (9 Sep). She was a member of the St Patrick's Church. She was about 42 years of age and leaves a husband and 11 children, many still at home. She was the oldest daughter of Mr & Mrs William Aldridge of this place. MAUK 05 Jul 1899 Miss Lulu B Mauk, the only daughter of Corporal John W Mauk who is noted in history as the slayer of Gen AP Hill in self-defense, was united in marriage to Walter F Bortz, the youngest son of Captain MF Bortz, all of Centreville. The bride lived with her mother who died a few weeks ago leaving her entirely alone in the old home. The wedding took place in the parlor of the Pennsylvania Hotel, Rev William Anthony, presiding. MAUK 21 Jun 1899 Cumberland Valley PA 20 Jun 1899 Catherine Mauk, widow of Corporal John W Mauk, died at her residence at Centreville of paralysis having been stricken on Friday night, aged 71 years, 8 months and 16 days. Her husband died Aug 19, 1898. She leaves 7 children: B F Hite of Hyndman; George W Hite of Connellsville PA; J Theodore Hite of Strickel PA; Augustus B Hite of St Louis MO; Wilbur C Hite of Cresaptown; HC Mauk of Hyndman, and Lulu B Mauk who was at home with her mother. The funeral is Thursday at the ME Church with burial at Bethel cemetery. McELFISH 10 Apr 1899 Mr Joseph McElfish died yesterday at his late residence near Flintstone, 78 years of age. His house was a stopping off place for people passing through, his wife who died a few years ago, had the reputation as a great hostess. He had been ill for some time and the last 3 years of his life he had been confined to his bed. He was a brother to the late Rev John McElfish and also to Mrs Leonard Hinkle who resides near Cumberland, and of Amos McElfish of Springfield WV. He leaves the following children: Mrs J M Turner of Cumberland; Philip McElfish of Folck's Mills and Henry McElfish with whom he lived. He was a lifelong member of the M E Church South. Burial is in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. McELFISH 11 Aug 1899 Marriage licences- A. Gilmore McElfish or Rush and Adeline Chaney of Twiggtown. McELFISH 27 Jul 1899 Eliza McElfish Sr., one of the oldest residents of the area, died at his home in Hewitt, 4 miles above Flintstone on Saturday morning (22 Jul), about 85 years of age. He leaves a widow, 80 years of age, and 6 sons and one daughter, the widow of the late George Lashley of Flintstone. Two daughters and one son are deceased. The interment was in Rush on Tuesday. Mr McElfish was born at Rush and was a member of the Lutheran Church. He was the owner of the McElfish Mills and was a miller by trade and also owned a large farm known all over this corner of the county. He was the last leaf of a large family tree. McFARLAND 24 Mar 1899 Mrs Jean McFarland died this morning at the residence of her son-in-law, W J Miller of 48 Fayette St, aged 76 years. She was the relict of the late John McFarland who died 8 years ago. About 5 months ago, she took ill with the grippe and has been ill ever since, her death due to heart failure. She was born and married at Motherwell, Scotland and came to this country 46 years ago, living here ever since except a brief interval when she lived in Connellsville PA. She was the mother of 7 children, all living and 2 of whom were born in Scotland: surviving are, John and James of Frostburg; William in Cumberland; Mrs William Sleeman and Mrs Wesley Loar of Vale Summit; Mrs William Jennings of McKeesport; and Mrs William J Miller of Cumberland. The funeral is Sunday at Eckhart Baptist Church and Cemetery. McKENZIE 07 Jan 1899 Mr David H McKenzie, a well known farmer, died at his residence at Cresaptown this morning aged 60 years. He leaves one son, Mark McKenzie. The funeral is from the M E Church in Cresaptown. MILLER 01 Dec 1899 Mr Christian Miller has been postmaster of Purcell, Bedford County, PA for 27 years. MILLER 17 Jun 1899 Mrs Harriett Miller, wife of Jacob residing in Cumberland Valley, 12 miles distant, died yesterday, aged 62 years. She had been ill 12 weeks and was the mother of John Miller a blacksmith of Cumberland on N Mechanic St. The funeral is tomorrow with Rev AS Beane officiating. MILLER 27 Mar 1899 Mr Jonah Sparks of Fulton County PA and Miss Caroline Miller of Bedford County PA were married today in the parlor of the Pennsylvania Hotel by Rev C H Richardson. MILLER 07 Sep 1899 Marriage Licence-David Miller Jr of Chapman's Run and Ella L Bridges of Clearville. NEW BEDFORD ST 19 Jun 1899 M P Church opened with history and 2 column article complete with photo of pastors and of the building. NORTHCRAFT 23 Nov 1899 Marriage Licence- John Mclaughlin of Minneapolis MN to Harriett Northcraft of Cumberland. NYCUM 05 Jan 1899 Barney Nycum, a highly respected farmer living near Hancock, died yesterday, aged about 70 years. He once lived near Flintstone and is well known in this city. He leaves 3 sons, 1 daughter and a brother. The funeral is tomorrow at the Tonoloway Baptist Church near Hancock. OLD GRAVEYARD 17 May 1899 The deed to an old graveyard is sold and the residents must be transferred to some other burial ground. This graveyard fronts Cumberland Street and persons prior to 1852 lie buried in this lot. In 1799, Samuel Beall's son, Thomas Beall, deeded the lot to Joseph Cresap and J J Jacob, trustees of the Methodists for public and divine worship. A church built there was torn down 17 years later and the church is not the Centre Street ME Church. At that time, this and 5 others were the only graveyards of this city: "Hook's Graveyard", the Lutheran Graveyard, the M E Graveyard, St Patrick's on Centre Street, and Presbyterian grounds on Liberty Street. One problem in moving the residents is that the graves are unmarked and identification is impossible. 14 Jul 1899 Exhumation and reburial activities begun by Mr Isaac Nelson. 15 Jul 1899 Mr Lewis F Wilson has the contract to re-inter bodies. 17 Jul 1899 Captain David Lynn removed from old Methodist cemetery on Cumberland Street and removed to Rose Hill. (Full column article of history of David Lynn of the Revolutionary War) PIPER 18 Feb 1899 Oldtown News- Two highly respected local citizens died at their respective homes on Thursday (16 Feb ) and on Friday (17 Feb) of last week. Mr L O Piper is a victim of dropsy and Levinia, wife of Consor Hartley gave way under nervous prostration. Both were model citizens and the community grieves them and they will be sadly missed. RICE 16 Feb 1899 Mr Will G Rice of Little Valley and Miss Missouri Hattie Dicken, daughter of Martin L Dicken of Dickens MD were married yesterday at the M E Parsonage on Bedford Street by Rev Dr Rice. At the home of the bride they were surprised by a rousing calithumpian serenade. RICE 12 Jan 1899 Mrs Ellen Rice, wife of the late Levi Rice, died last night at the residence of daughter, Mrs John T Bramble at Lindnerville, aged 75 years from the grippe. She leaves the following children: Peter; Malaichi who is a judge of Orphan's Court; Martin V; Andrew; and Augusta Rice; and also Mrs J T Bramble; Mrs Filmore Rice; and Mrs Mary L Bucy. All of them near the city except Augusta who lives in Central City VA. The funeral is tomorrow at Mt Pleasant Church, Rev Brown of Flintstone officiating. RICE 29 Jun 1899 Mrs Louisa Rice died last night at her home on Christie Road, 2 « miles east of the city, aged about 70 years. She had been in ill health for one month and had been married for 49 years and a consistent member of the MP Church. She is survived by a husband and 3 children: Mrs Louisa Valentine of Bedford Road; Charles A Rice, who lives with his father; and Oliver P Rice of this city. The funeral is tomorrow with burial in the home burying grounds. RICE 18 Mar 1899 Mrs Upton Rice, aged 65 years, died this morning at her home near Centreville of bronchitis. Her maiden name was Caroline Growden, a sister of John W Growden of the Cumberland Valley. The funeral is Monday at the Fellowship Church, Rev H L Schlinecke officiating. ROBINETTE 02 Feb 1899 Mrs Anna, wife of Captain Amos Robinette died yesterday from his home on the Bedford Road, aged 70 years. The following children survive: Mrs Mary Hartsock of Keyser WV; Mrs Catherine Miller and Mrs Tabitha Deffibaugh of the Cumberland Valley; Mrs Belle McElfish and Mrs Mary Diehl of the Bedford Road; and also Ursula, Matilda, and Frank Robinette. The funeral is tomorrow from Zion Lutheran Church, Rev E Sutherland officiating. ROSENBAUM's 28 Apr 1899 Opening of Rosenbaum Brothers Building. ( 3 column story with photo). SMITH 28 Apr 1899 Mrs Margaret Smith, widow of Conrad Smith, died at her home in Purcell Bedford County PA on April 17, aged 86 years, 6 months, and 21 days. SMITH 20 Oct 1899 Mr Samuel Smith, a farmer about 65 years of age, was found dead in a field on his farm on the PA side of the line near Pratt. Owing to his advanced age, it is possible that he dropped dead while at work. Foul play is not expected. SOYSTER 10 Aug 1899 Mrs Mary Soyster, relict of the late Henry Soyster, died this morning at the residence on Madison Street, aged 65 years. She had suffered from cancer for the past 20 years. She is survived by 2 sisters, Mrs Judy Wilson of Flintstone and Mrs Susan Weimer of Clearridge; and one brother, Jesse Fletcher of Newark OH; and other relatives in this city The funeral is Saturday morning from the home. SPEELMAN 24 Jun 1899 George W Speelman died yesterday at his home on Walnut St, aged 54 years. He was a carpenter and served as a Union soldier during the Civil War in Co H, 2nd MD Vol and received a pension. A widow, Miss Martha Hendrickson, daughter of the late Richard Hendrickson and 2 sons, Carl and Walter survive. Also, 3 brothers and 3 sisters survive: Sommerfield, William, and James and Miss Emma Judd, Mrs Nettie Jones and Mrs Mary Thorp of Metamora IN. STALLINGS 03 Nov 1899 Thornton Stallings of Medley WV died last Monday (30 Oct) night at the home of his brother-in-law, J D Moomau, aged 66 years. Mr Stallings was born near Oldtown and was connected with the Union Army, at some time during the Civil War though not as a soldier. He married his wife who survives about 1863, the daughter of Rev Roland S Dayton. In 1865, he moved to Medley, Grant County and engaged in the mercantile business. Failing health led him to retire some time ago. He is the father of Robert H Stallings of Davis WV. ST NICHOLAS BUILDING 10 Jun 1899 The New St Nicholas Building on Baltimore Street is profiled and described with a drawing of the building and the growth of Cumberland extolled. (2 column story) TEWELL 03 Jul 1899 Josiah Tewell died Sunday at his home at Centreville from heart failure, aged about 60 years. Mr Tewell was a retired farmer and a member of the MP Church. He leaves a widow and 2 daughters; Mrs Samuel nave and Miss Martha, who lives with her mother. His only son, Halleck Tewell died about 2 years ago. Interment will be Thursday at Fellowship Church, Rev AS Beame officiating. TEWELL 20 Sep 1899 George Tewell, an old soldier and the Justice of the Peace at Chaneysville, died aged 69 years. He was the father of JD Tewell, steward of the almshouse at Bedford and of A L Tewell, merchant of Chaneysville. He was a member of Co F, PA Inf, in the Civil War. TOMLINSON 03 May 1899 Mr Peter J Tomlinson died today at his residence 16 Charles Street, aged 46 years. He was born and raised in Flintstone, removing to this city some years ago to follow the trade of stone cutting. Later he engaged in the mercantile business in Fairmont WV until ill health 1 year ago caused him to quit work. He leaves a wife and 3 children, one of whom is , E G Tomlinson, a clerk in B A Richardson's law office. He has a sister residing in Pocahontas VA and a brother in Frostburg. The funeral is tomorrow at Greenmount Cemetery. TOWN HILL 27 Mar 1899 Big Fight at Town Hill following a dance. Involved were Albert Alderton, John Stewart, Mr Olphin, Alvey Alderton and Silas Diehl, who received the most of it, a blow to the head by a plank and may not live. (8 paragraph story with follow-up articles for several days) TWIGG 07 Feb 1899 Mr C Benton Twigg died last night at his home at Mt Harmons, near Williams Road in his 39th year. He was a well known hotel man clerking at the Windsor and later proprietor of the Arlington. Death was caused by inflamation of the stomach, having been ill for 2 years. He married Miss Sophia Lear of this city who survives with children, Henrietta aged 6 and Lear aged 4. He was a son of Francis Twigg who resides near Mt Harmon. Surviving brothers and sisters; Dr W F Twigg; Mrs D M Dicken; Mrs H B Dean; Mrs H Hinkle; Miss Laura Twigg; and Messers, Torreyson and Alva B Twigg. Twigg, died suddenly at home near Twiggtown yesterday morning. She had awakened her husband and while he was making a fire in the cook stove, he heard her moan and going to see what was wrong, found her dead. She had not been ill but had complained of neuralgia. She leaves a child 4 months old. She was the daughter of Jesse Robinette The funeral and burial took place in Oldtown. TWIGG 15 Jun 1899 Brice Twigg, aged 69 years, died at his home near Hazen on Tuesday 13 June and was buried yesterday at Centenary, Rev AS Beane of the MP Church officiated. The funeral was largely attended. TWIGG 21 Oct 1899 A horse fell with Mr John R Twigg on the Bedford Road breaking both of Mr Twigg's legs and he was taken to the hospital. He is a brother to William and Moses Twigg of near Hazen. VALENTINE 16 Nov 1899 Mrs Hannah, wife of B R Valentine, died at her late residence on Frederick Street, aged 53 years. She had been in ill health for 5 years due to a complication of diseases. She is survived by her husband and the following children: Mrs Margaret Magruder and Mrs Walter Brant of Lindnerville; Mrs louis Jones of Cumberland; and Harry, Frederick, Eddie and Mabel who reside at the Brant place. The funeral is Sunday from the M P Church on Bedford Street with interment in the German Lutheran Cemetery. WIGFIELD 23 Mar 1899 Marriage Licences- George E Wigfield of Silver Mills PA and Maggie Stottlemyer of Orleans have taken out a marriage licence this week at Bedford PA WILKINSON 12 Jan 1899 Jabez Wilkinson died this afternoon at the home of son in law Thompson Wickard, 194 N Centre Street, aged 78 years, 3 months. His death was caused by pneumonia superimposed by grippe. He was a native of Baltimore where he married Miss Sarah Smith in 1844. He was a boss moulder at McKaig's foundry for 40 years before retiring 2 years ago. He made the rosettes on the narrows Stone bridge as an apprentice in Alexandria VA. He leaves 3 sons; Joseph T, John W and George Wilkinson and 2 daughters, Mrs Thomas Wickard and Mrs John T Fay. His wife died 9 years ago. Burial is in the German Beneficiary Cemetery. WILLISON 24 Aug 1899 Jarius Willison of near Everett PA, formerly of near Flintstone, died at his home on Saturday, August 19, aged 55 years . He leaves a wife and 9 children, 2 children died some years ago. He was a brother of John B and Alfred Willison of Flintstone. The funeral took place Monday at the Bethel Cemetery of Black Valley. WOLFORD 09 Mar 1899 Samuel H Wolford, formerly of this county, died 18 Feb 1899 at his residence in Springfield MO.
