He is in the Western Maryland Hospital unconscious and may not recover. Yesterday afternoon he had alleged to have called at a grocery store in that neighborhood and wanted to purchase laudanum, saying that he considered it a very valuable medicine, and did not care to be without it in the house. He was told that the proprietor did not sell the drug. Shortly after lunch this evening, his daughter who had been attracted by his peculiar actions earlier in the day, walked int her fathers room when she found him lying on the floor unconscious and a bottle partially filled with laudanum nearby. It is thought he attempted to hide it under a small cover on a large stand in his room after drinking a quantity. Neighbors were at once called and Drs William L Burns and Maynard J Simmons were summoned by phone. Upon learning that he had drunk laudanum, the physicians had him removed to the Western Maryland Hospital in the Stein Ambulance. At the hospital, antidotes were administered but his physicians were unable to say whether or not he will recover. Mr Twigg was formerly in the grocery business at the corner of Maryland Avenue and Williams Road but owing to bad health was forced to retire from that line of work and later engaged in the contracting business of the city.
