It was built in 1810 by Henry Blocher when N Centre Street was an orchard up to the Narrows and owned by the McKaig family. An old well was found with hollow log "pipes" running to the Mill Race. During the Civil War, Henry Herpich operated a general store in the building and it was looted several times by both sides. After that, it was a shoe store and later a bakery operated by Adam Nickel and son Henry Nickel until last year. [Article of several paragraphs]. ATHEY 06 Jan 1915 Charles S Athey, 63 years of age, a carpenter of Pinto, died from a fall from a scaffold on Albert Rawling's Farm at Rawlings. He died of a fractured skull and a broken back. He is survived by children: Arthur Athey of Keyser; John Athey of Chaffee WV; Charles S Athey of Terra Haute IN; Mrs Rhea Sagle and Robert Athey of Cumberland. Also surviving are: brothers and sisters, Thomas Athey of Oldtown; Mrs Anna Rhodes of Martinsburg WV; Mrs Louise Gore of Keyser; Scott and Philip Athey of Cumberland. BACK 29 Jan 1915 William Back of Culpepper Co, VA, a miner, was injured by a powder explosion in the Gensing Mine of the Barton Coal Co. , died at Westernport on Tuesday (26 Jan). His mother, brother, and sister came to claim the body at Westernport and will transport it back to Virginia for services and burial. Subsequent information .. BENJAMIN 02 Jan 1915 Miss Evelyn Benjamin, aged 25 years, daughter of Mr & Mrs J E W Benjamin, 52 Williams Street, died at Western Maryland Hospital following an operation. She is survived by her parents; brothers, J E W Benjamin Jr; Charles A Benjamin; A R W Benjamin; and S O Benjamin; and sisters, Misses Viola and Emma at home; and Mrs Ethel Shepherd of Baltimore. Burial is at Greenmount Cemetery. BISHOP 26 Jan 1915 The funeral of John F Bishop who was killed Sunday (24 Jan) at Blaser WV when he slipped from atop a freight car of a train and fell off beneath the wheels, was held at St Mary's Church and burial is at Terra Alta WV. BREHANY 21 Jan 1915 James Brehany, 50 years, died at his home at Pekin yesterday. He had taken ill while at work in the Detmold Mine at Lonaconing. A wife and 5 children survive: James, John, Catherine, Loretta, and Naomi. BRUCK 30 Jan 1915 Mr Conrad Bruck, aged 72 years, father of Mrs Ward W Eichelberger and Mrs Fred Dreyer of Cumberland, died at his home near Glen Savage today. He is also survived by these children: Mrs John Gardner of Basic VA; Mrs Irving Burket of Hyndman; Fred and Charles Bruck of Hyndman; Adam and Albert Bruck of Speelman PA; Walter Bruck of Connellsville PA; and Edward, Frank, and Robert Bruck at home. The funeral is from the German Evangelical Church at Glen Savage with Rev Martin officiating. BRUNER 01 Jan 1915 Frank Bruner was killed in George's Creek Mine at Lonaconing. Burial is at St Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Frostburg. CAREY 11 Jan 1915 Mr Daniel Carey, an aged resident of Luke, an employee of WESTVACO, was buried on Saturday (9 Jan) in Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. CARNELL 09 Jan 1915 George W Carnell died 25 Dec 1914 in Dorrance KS. He was born in Cumberland in 1835, a son of Mr & Mrs Leonard Carnell, who kept a tavern at the 6 mile house on the National Pike during 1835-1840. He served in the Army of the Potomac in the Civil War. He is survived by 5 children, living in the West. CHIPLEY 11 Jan 1915 Dr Charles Edward Chipley, aged 58 years, former resident of Lonaconing, died Sunday (10 Jan) at the home of a sister, Miss Elizabeth Chipley of Stephens City VA, due to complication of diseases. He left here 10 years ago after engaging in the drug business with the Meyers family. He was unmarried. COOPER 06 Jan 1915 Mr Aldilous Cooper, of Spring Street Keyser, died yesterday after an illness of one year in his 54th year. He was a B&O RR engineer and is survived by a wife and 2 daughters; Misses Trix and Cleo. COPP 19 Jan 1915 George Copp, aged 40, a miner at #51 Davis Coal & Coke Co., Junction WV was electrocuted yesterday exiting the mine. He stumbled and grabbed the overhead wire to avoid falling and formed a circuit with his foot on the rail, receiving heavy voltage. He is survived by a wife and 3 children at Junction. DAVIS 18 Jan 1915 Joseph Davis, aged 21 years, an employee at WESTVACO, was killed yesterday on the Western Maryland tracks at the place where the tracks of the WMRR and C&P RR intersect. DICK 05 Jan 1915 Robert A L Dick, a native of Lonaconing, formerly a lawyer of Cumberland, died at Bellvue Hospital of New York City yesterday. His widow and mother and 2 daughters and a son and 5 brothers; David E, John K; William A of Dodson WV; Alexander B and Clarence Dick; and 2 sisters, Mrs Ella Hadley of Waterbury CN; and Mrs William Nephken of Baltimore. The funeral is at Baltimore. DOVEY 11 Jan 1915 Silas Dovey died Sunday (10 Jan) at home in Rada on the TM&P RR in his 66th year of pneumonia. His wife, son Charles and daughters Miss Maud and Mrs Luther Rogers of Purgittsville survive. Burial at Elijah High Cemetery. DUCKWORTH 18 Jan 1915 Mrs Julianna Duckworth, aged 70 years, a widow of John Duckworth, died yesterday at home in Narrows Park following a lingering illness. Burial is in Cresaptown. ECKSHAW 25 Jan 1915 James Thomas Eckshaw, aged 78 years, died last night at his home at Carroll Street of apoplexy. He was a Union veteran of Co., B; 2nd Reg., Maryland Home Brigade. These children survive: Mrs John McCullough; James and Charles Eckshaw, all of Cumberland. Burial is at Rose Hill Cemetery. EDMINTON 19 Jan 1915 Mrs Mary Edminton, aged 75 years, widow of Samuel Edminton, died of paralysis on Friday (15 Jan) at the home of son-in-law M W Wonn at Elkins WV. Surviving are 3 sons, Samuel D Edminton on Liberty Street, Cumberland; J G Edminton at Lurray VA; W T Edminton at Berkeley Springs WV; and 2 daughters, Mrs William R Mendenhall of Virginia Avenue, Cumberland and Mrs W M Wonn. Interment at Phillipi WV. FIELDS 08 Jan 1915 Mrs Amanda Fields, widow of R A Fields of Cleveland a former resident of Cumberland, died yesterday at her home, 72 years of age. Surviving brothers, William Deetz, Howard Deetz, and Perry Deetz of Cumberland; a sister, Mrs Hannah Fenna of Erie PA. Deceased brothers were George H Deetz and Wesley Deetz. Burial is at Clevleand. FLECKENSTEIN 05 Jan 1915 Adam Fleckenstein, aged 60 years, of Pittsburgh PA died yesterday at the home of his mother Mrs Sebasitan Fleckenstein, 715 Greene Street of an abcess of the right eye. A wife and several grown children survive. Burial at the Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery. FLETCHER 05 Jan 1915 Clymer Fletcher, 49 years of age, a fruit grower, died Jan 1 at home at Chapman's Run, Bedford Co., PA. His widow, the former Miss Bowman of Artemas and four brothers and four sisters survive. Burial is at the family graveyard. GIBSON 09 Jan 1915 Robert Gibson formerly of Lonaconing, lately of Roscoe, Washington Co., PA , died of a complication of diseases. He was born at Somerlea, Scotland in 1840, came to this country in 1891, and settled in Illinois. He never married, making his home with his late sister, Mrs John Smith of Lonaconing, and for the past year, with brother John Gibson. GRAMLICH 18 Jan 1915 Frank R Gramlich, aged 69 years, son of the late F M Gramlich, died suddenly Sunday (17 Jan) at his home N Centre Street. He married Miss Emma Bender on 22 Feb 1892, who survives. Also surviving are: 2 sisters, Mrs Catherine McEvoy and a nun in New York City, Sister Aloysius Ganzaja, formerly Elizabeth Gramlich. GROSS 18 Jan 1915 Joseph Earl Gross, 1 year old son of Mr & Mrs George C Gross of Martin Mountain died today. GROWDEN 30 Jan 1915 Mrs Rebecca Growden aged 81 years of Belleville OH, formerly of Cumberland Valley PA and the widow of Thomas L Growden, died . She leaves a son in Los Angeles and a sister, Mrs Mary Whipp of Centreville PA, who is 96 years of age. HACKETT 26 Jan 1915 Mrs Jennie G Hackett died yesterday at her home on 25 S Allegany Street. Her body is being sent to Sudlersville, Queen Anne county, MD for burial beside her late husband, Dr John Casey Hackett. HACKETT 25 Jan 1915 Mrs Jessie Guthrie Hackett, wife of the late Dr John Casey Hackett, died this morning of a prolonged illness at her home 25 Allegany Street. She was born at Ayer, Scotland a daughter of the Rev James McBeth and his wife Marianna MacAllister. Two sisters survive; Mrs Theodore Luman and Miss Estelle MacBeth. HANSELL 14 Jan 1915 Joseph Hansell, aged 78 years, died yesterday at his home in LaVale of apoplexy. These children survive: Joseph W; John G; Paul G; Theodore; Garrett; Griffith; Lloyd; and Perry W Hansell; and Mrs C I Workman; Mrs Fred Schaub; Mrs Melvin Sagle; and Misses Ruth and Daisy Hansell. Burial is at Rose Hill Cemetery. HERON 27 Jan 1915 John Heron, one of Lonaconing's oldest citizens, died today at his home on Jackson Street following a long illness. Born Dec 1841 in Nova Scotia he had lived here for 45 years. He was a retired miner at the Jackson Mines. He was a merchant and a district constable for many years. His wife was Miss Jennie Bradley, a daughter of William and Jessie Bradley of the Island here. Surviving are sons James B Heron of Trinidad CO; William Heron of Hastings Neb.; Henry D Heron of Lonaconing; John Heron Jr of Van Houten N Mex; Robert Heron of Fort Sapiro Calif with the US Army; Mrs Lindley P Nichols of Lonaconing and Mrs James Cameron of Stamford Utah and deceased sons, Harvey Heron , who died with the US Army and Joseph Heron who died of dropsy some years ago. Burial is at Oak Hill Cemetery. HERSHEY 11 Jan 1915 Mrs William Hershey died Sunday (10 Jan) at her home in Russelldale after a long illness. She is survived by a husband, one son, and sisters, Mrs Louis Batie and Mrs I H Baldwin of Keyser WV. HIMMLER 01 Jan 1915 Grover Cleveland Himmler, 30 years of age, of the Cumberland Police Force, died at his residence 95 Highland Street of acute indigestion. He is son of William Himmler and married only last June. Surviving are wife Mildred; mother Mary, brothers William and Christopher. Burial is at the German Lutheran Cemetery. JAY 13 Jan 1915 George Jay, aged 32 years, son of Samuel Jay of Baltimore Pike, was killed at Davis WV while at work at a sawmill yesterday. The body was returned to Cumberland and burial was at Greenmount Cemetery. Surviving are Wife, Nettie Imes Jay; 2 small daughters, his father Samuel Jay; 5 brothers, E Jay of Davis WV, Conrad and Raymond of Bedford County PA; Robert and Charles Jay of Cumberland; 4 sisters, Mrs Louis Miller, Mrs Harry Swartley, Mrs Harvey Lawrence, Miss Pearl Jay at home. JENKINS 09 Jan 1915 Mrs Ellen Jenkins died Jan 8 of paralysis at Gormania WV and services were held there. The following children survive: Mrs Leonard Paugh of Deer Park; Mrs S C Thomas of Petersburg; Mrs Charles Mock of Richwood WV; Mrs William Myers of Chicago Junction; Levi Grubb of Bermis WV; Henry and William Grubb of Gormania; Mrs Ray Cost of Elkins; and Misses Olive and Bertha Jenkins of Gormania. KENNELL 05 Jan 1915 Mrs Marie Loretta Kennell, aged 24 years, died at Garrett PA yesterday. She is the daughter of the former resident of Cumberland, Henry J Merkel. Her husband and 2 children survive, along with; parents, and brothers and sisters: George, Grace, Sue, and Marie Merkel. Funeral at the Trinity Church and burial in the German Lutheran Cemetery. KENNEY 19 Jan 1915 James Kenney Sr, aged 77 years, died last night at his home on Linden Street Frostburg. His sons, Peter, James and Aloysious Kenny have the Kenny Cigar Co of Frostburg. Also surviving, his widow, sons; John J, Kenny, Carlos, Edward of St Clair WV and daughters, Mrs George Sinch of Blaine WV; and Misses Anna and Martha at home. Burial at St Michael's Cemetery Frostburg. KING 04 Jan 1915 Mrs Mary E King, 62 years of age, died yesterday at Cherry Alley. Her first husband was the late Thomas Parker, and their children, Thomas, Robert, and Mary Parker, survive. Burial at Sumner Cemetery. KUMMILL 05 Jan 1915 Mrs Mary Kummill, aged 24 years, wife of Walter Kummill died at Garrett PA today. Her husband and 2 children survive. Burial at the German Lutheran Cemetery, Cumberland. LARK 20 Jan 1915 H J Lark, 72 years, died yesterday at his home in Spring Gap WV of dropsy. A widow and 9 children survive. Burial is at Frankfort. LAWRENCE 28 Jan 1915 Thomas Lawrence, aged 57 years, formerly of Tennessee, but with no relatives here, died today at the Tuberculosis Sanitarium on Haystack Mountain where he had been a patient for only 6 weeks. Burial is at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. LEE 07 Jan 1915 James R Lee, aged 34 years, a brakeman for the B&O RR, died of tuberculosis today following a 6 month illness. He was single and had several brothers and sisters including: Miss Nettie Lee of Washington DC; Harvey Lee of Tulsa OK; John Lee of Ridgley WV; uncles; James S Nee of Arch Street Cumberland and John S Nee of N Center Street. Burial at Rose Hill Cemetery. LEWIS 05 Jan 1915 Mrs Charles Lewis of Piedmont, aged 24 years, died Saturday (2 Jan) of tuberculosis. She was Miss Bessie Rice of Moorefield prior to marriage to her husband, who survives. Burial is at Moorefield. LLOYD 14 Jan 1915 Henry Lloyd of Welsh Hill Frostburg, died yesterday of a complication of diseases at age 74 years. Born at Pendaren Wales, he came to this country 45 years ago settling first in Pennsylvania, then removing to Frostburg. A widow and 11 children, 3 daughters and 8 sons survive: Mrs James McNeill, Mrs John Festerman, Mrs Walter Powell; and Messers, Thomas, William, Walter, James, Henry, Daniel and Evan Lloyd at Frostburg; and David J Lloyd of Lonaconing. Burial in McLuckie's graveyard. LONG 22 Jan 1915 J Thomas Long, 79 years, former Cumberland resident, died at Ainsworth IA where he has lived the past 50 years. "Uncle Tom" was born and raised at Three Mile Water Station on the Potomac River. He was a soldier in the war of 1865. The late Daniel R Long of LaVale was a brother and nephews Lynn, William and Webster Long are nephews. His wife, 2 sons, and 4 daughters survive, all married and living in the West. He had revisited Cumberland every two years or so and this year, got as far as Myersdale PA and caught a cold which developed into pneumonia from which he died after returning home. MacFARLANE 04 Jan 1915 Magistrate James MacFarlane, aged 64 years, died at the home of daughter, Mrs Robert Glenn on Robbins Street, Lonaconing on Sunday of apoplexy. He came here at age 19 years and lived here for 45 years, retiring from mining only 15 years ago. He was born in Kilwining, Ayershire, Scotland and is survived by: his wife and 3 daughters, Mrs Robert Glenn; Mrs William R Dixon of Lonaconing; and Mrs Clarence Reese of Baltimore; 5 sons, James G; Thomas R; David R; and Samuel MacFarland of Lonaconing; and 3 brothers, Andrew of Scotland; William of Washington DC; and J B of Cumberland; and one sister, Mrs Mary Hay of Cumberland. The body has been removed to the home at Kanpps Meadow and burial is at Oak Hill Cemetery at Lonaconing . MADIGAN 27 Jan 1915 Mrs Mary Madigan, aged 37 years, wife of William H Madigan, died today at Allegany Hospital following an illness of several weeks. Three boys and one girl survive with their father. The funeral is to be from Sts Peter & Paul Catholic Church. MATT 18 Jan 1915 Mrs Annie R Matt, aged 50 years, died Friday (15 Jan) at her home on N Centre Street. The funeral is at Sts Peter & Paul Catholic Church. McCLELLLAN 06 Jan 1915 Georgia McClellan, 3 months old daughter of Mr & Mrs Robert McClellan, Ridgely WV, died on Monday (4 Jan). Burial is at Rose Hill Cemetery. McLAUGHLIN 23 Jan 1915 Miss Margaret H McLaughlin, 66 years, died this morning at her home on Fulton Street of pneumonia. A sister living with her Miss Mary McLaughlin and a half-brother, John Hayden of Illinois survive. Funeral at St Patrick's Church. McNAMARA 04 Jan 1915 Mrs Bridget A McNamara, aged 73 years, widow of John McNamara of Cecelia Street, Cumberland, died Saturday (2 Jan) from a fall and a fractured hip. Surviving children are: James, John, George and Mrs S O'Connor of Pittsburgh; Daniel of Johnstown; Charles, Misses Irene and Ella McNamara of Cumberland. The funeral at St Patrick's and burial at Orleans Crossroads Cemetery. MEYERS 05 Jan 1915 Mrs Mary J Meyers,a fed 44 years, wife of Joseph Meyers, died today at 553 Greene Street. She was born Mary Wunder. She is survived by her husband and children and children of a prior marriage: Misses Veronica, Leota, and Lucy Meyers and John H Porter. Burial at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery. MILLER 27 Jan 1915 Urban Miller, aged 78 years, died today at his home, 95 Valley Road after an illness of 2 weeks. He was a well known contractor. Two sons; Urban J Miller Jr and Walter Miller and three daughters, Mrs Margaret Strohmenger and Mrs George Matt of Cumberland and Mrs Jerome Buckey of Cresaptown survive. The funeral is to be from Sts Peter & Paul Catholic Church. MILLER 05 Jan 1915 John Jacob Miller, aged 69 years, a painter, died today at the Western Maryland Hospital. MUIR 02 Jan 1915 Mrs Viola Muir, wife of Samuel Muir of Eckhart died yesterday at Miner's Hospital Frostburg of pneumonia, aged 22 years. MULLEN 11 Jan 1915 Patrick Mullen, aged 71 years, died Friday (8 Jan) in Piedmont. He was a conductor of the B&O RR and a native of Ireland, and served in the Union Army and retired from the B&O on 1 April 1913. Four sons; M E Mullen of Cumberland; JV Mullen; PA Mullen; and FD Mullen of Piedmont; and a daughter, Mrs F A Ricker of Bridgeport OH. Services held at St Peter's of Piedmont. MURRAY 22 Jan 1915 John Murray, 71 years, died last night at Ridgeley WV of paralysis. His wife and these children survive; WH Murray; DF Murray; JA Murray of Twin Mountain WV; and Mrs H Nickel of Canton OH. MURRAY 23 Jan 1915 Mr John A Murray, aged 71 years, 6 months, and 12 days, died Thursday (21 Jan) at the home of daughter Mrs Walter Viney on Silver Street, Ridgeley WV from a stroke of paralysis. He served the Confederacy in the war. He and his wife, the former Miss Mary Arnold moved here from Eckhart Mines. His wife and these children survive: William H Murray; B Frank Murray; Mrs Walter Viney and Mrs Walter Stallings all of Ridgeley WV and John A Murray Jr of Twin Mountain WV and Mrs Nichols of Canton OH. Burial is at Eckhart. MURRAY 26 Jan 1915 John Murray died 21 Jan 1915 and the funeral took place at the home of Mrs Walter Viney, Silver Street, Ridgeley WV, conducted by Rev. WA Lynch and the burial was at Eckhart Mines. Besides the wife and family, a brother, Mr William Murray; and ½ brothers Helrich Roach of Ellerslie and Burman Roach of Hyndman attended the funeral. NITSCH 11 Jan 1915 Edward A Nitsch, aged 36, a farm hand at John Miller's farm at Millerdale WV, died yesterday of pneumonia. A sister, Miss Cecelia Nitsch will accompany the body to Baltimore for burial. PFAHLER 27 Jan 1915 Mrs Ralph H Pfahler, aged 30 years, wife of a prominent merchant of Meyersdale PA, died today at Allegany Hospital after a 2 weeks illness. Beside her husband, one child also survives. She was a native of Fairmont WV. The body was taken to Meyersdale for services and burial. PFEIFFER 30 Jan 1915 Mr John Pfeiffer Sr, aged 82 years, of Frostburg, died today. He is survived by 4 sons and 3 daughters; Philip Pfeiffer of Grant Street, Frostburg; Mrs Julius Kummer of Wadsworth NV; Mrs John L Heintz of Cumberland; Dr John C Pfeiffer of Frost Avenue, Frostburg; Fred Pfeiffer of the US Marine Band at Washington DC; William H Pfeiffer of the US Naval Academy Band at Annapolis; and Mrs John Bradburn of Grant Street Frostburg. He was born in 1832 in Hesse-armstadt, Germany and emigrated here in 1852 and was a coal miner, retiring only 15 years ago. The funeral is from the Zion Lutheran Church with Rev PG Saffran officiating and burial in Allegheny Cemetery. REES 20 Jan 1915 William Garfield Rees, aged 34, died last night at home in Frostburg. A son of Judge John B Rees of the Orphans Court, he was a miner and a barber. A wife and 4 children survive, 3 daughters and one son and also, these brothers and sisters; John Rees of Colorado; David Rees of Garrett Indiana; Mrs John Adams of Hagerstown MD; Mrs David Nightengale of Lonaconing; and Mrs Samuel Mears of Frostburg. He was a son-in-law of Mr & Mrs J M Zimmerly of Frostburg. Burial is at Allegany Cemetery. RHINEHART 05 Jan 1915 Mrs Helen Rhinehart, wife of John W Rhinehart of Frankfort, aged 65 years, died of heart trouble. Her husband and these children survive: Mrs J Blue of Romney WV; Mrs George Herriott of Wappacoma; Mrs Edwin Kuykendall of Reese Mills; Alta Rhinehart of Canada; John Rhinehart of Edmonton MS; Minnie and Elijah of Frankfort WV. Burial is at Eusebia Church Cemetery of Frankfort. RIGGS 18 Jan 1915 Mrs Robert Riggs, a Frostburg resident for 30 years, died Thursday (14 Jan) at Mannheim WV. A niece, Mrs Thomas Powell and daughter Nellie attended the funeral. She was a sister of John Dawson, Sarah Dawson, Mrs Elizabeth Farrell and Mrs Sidney R Dennison, all deceased. ROBINSON 08 Jan 1915 Mrs Nannie Forrest Robinson, aged 52, died today of a complication of diseases at Altamont Terrace. She was a Miss Sleemaker of Sistersville WV prior to her marriage to the late J Hunter Robinson of Greenspring WV. She is survived by: a son, J Hunter Robinson of San Francisco CA; 2 brothers in the West; and sister-in-law of the late Claude Robinson. Funeral at Emmanuel Episcopal Church and burial at Rose Hill Cemetery. RODABAUGH 06 Jan 1915 Howard Rodabaugh, 5 month old son of Mr & Mrs Edward Rodabaugh of 218 Mary Street, Cumberland died today. She is the daughter of Gus Kraus of Waverly Terrace, Cumberland. Her husband and 4 small children survive. Also, her parents and these brothers and sisters; Mrs John H Reed of Geothe St; Mrs Frank McCray of Hay Alley; Guy Kraus of Kater St; B Kraus of Maryland Avenue; Mrs Alice Henderson of Cumberland; Miss mamie Kraus of Washington DC; George, Earl, Charles and Miss Tilla Kraus at home. The body will be returned to Cumberland for burial. SEGGIE 11 Jan 1915 William Seggie, aged 43 years, a native of Scotland, and a brother of James Seggie of Cumberland, died at Meyersdale on Jan 4 from cancer of the stomach. His wife, 3 brothers and 5 sisters survive. SEIFERT 11 Jan 1915 Albert Seifert, aged 48 years, died at home on Walnut Street yesterday. His wife and 2 children; Adolph and Clara Seifert, survive. He was a brewer at the German Brewing Co. Services at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. SELLERS 18 Jan 1915 Mary Margaret Sellers, 3 months daughter of Mr & Mrs William Sellers of Coffman Street died yesterday of Pneumonia. Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. SENN 18 Jan 1915 John Senn, aged 69 years, died Saturday (16 Jan) at hom near Old Furnace from paralysis. A wife and several grown children survive. Burial is at Abe Cemetery in WV. SHAFFER 02 Jan 1915 Francis F Shaffer, aged 57 years, a Western Maryland RR machinist, died today at Allegany Hospital of asthma. He is survived by father, Rhine Shaffer of Mt Savage; his widow; three sons, Theodore, George, and Charles; brothers, L A Shaffer and McCarrin Shaffer of Cumberland; and Rhine Shaffer of Pittsburgh PA; and four sisters-all at Mt Savage. SMITH 09 Jan 1915 Dr Algerdon Gray Smith, 64 years of age, died 08 Jan at the home of a son, A Taylor Smith on Fayette Street, Cumberland. He was born in Charles Co., MD, a son of Timothy S & Priscilla Gray Smith, married Miss Amanda Turner, who survives with only one son. Also surviving, brother, William A Smith of Charles Co.; and sister, Mrs Walter H Gray of LaPlata MD. He practices medicine for 40 years at Midland. Burial is at Rose Hill. SPECHT 11 Jan 1915 S P Specht, age 58 years, merchant at Deer Park, died yesterday and is survived by a widow and one daughter. The funeral is tomorrow and burial in the family plot in Deer Park. STEELE 01 Jan 1915 Mrs John Steele died yesterday at Koontz Farm near Koontz Mine at Lonaconing of Bright's disease of the kidneys, aged 70 years. Her husband and 8 sons and 1 daughter survive: John Jr; Thomas; Claude; Andrew; William; James; George; and David Steele; and also Mrs George Stark. The funeral is at the Presbyterian Church at Lonaconing with Rev H L Ernest and burial in the family grounds. He was unmarried and is survived by 2 brothers and 3 sisters: Miss Annie, Mrs Frank Williams of Wood St; Mrs Thomas Lewis of Loo St and Messers, Conrad of Beall St and George Weisenborne of Wheeling WV. Burial is at the Salem Reformed Church with Rev George Metzger celebrating and burial in the Percy Cemetery on Federal Hill. WILHELM 27 Jan 1915 Harry Wilhelm, aged 35 years, son of Mr & Mrs James Wilhelm of Mt Savage, was found dead at the home of John Lemmert on Jealous Row in Mt Savage today as he had been preparing breakfast. He was unmarried and worked in the mines. He is survived by a sister, Mrs Charles Rizer and Mrs John Hawks of Mt Savage and brother Edward Wilhelm of Newburg WV. WILLISON 22 Jan 1915 Mrs Almira Willison, 73 years old, wife of Hilleary Willison, died yesterday at her home at the Stone House, 2 miles west of Flintstone, on the Baltimore Pike from paralysis. Besides her husband, the following children survive: Mrs EH Hartsock -Flintstone; Mrs CJ Simpson - Independence St, Cumberland; Mrs Josephine Hendrickson and Mrs Blanche Huerta - residing with their parents; Charles Willison of the Flintstone Hardware Co; NF Willison -Flintstone; and Robert W Willison -at home. Surviving are; a son and 2 daughters, Miss May B and Mrs Frank Wiland and son Oscar J and her father, Richard Morgan and brother Alfred Morgan and sisters Mrs John Close of Frostburg, and Mrs Noah Skidmore of Pittsburgh. She was born at Cinderford England and came here at age 4. Interment is in Allegany Cemetery. YOUNG 04 Jan 1915 James W Young, aged 9 years, son of Mr & Mrs Ralph Young of 8 Smallwood Street, and a grand son of William Young, died yesterday.
