BALTIMORE PIKE 23 Apr 1915 The Baltimore Pike from Cumberland to Nave's 
Crossroads will be resurfaced beyond Lindnerville. This will give a splendid 
roadway to beyond Folck's Mills.

BARNES 21 Apr 1915 Elmer Bennett of Artemas and Eliza Barnes of Silver Mills 
married at the M E Church on Glenn Street on Monday (19 Apr) and visited Mr & 
Mrs Grant Hanks on Bellview Street, a sister of the groom.

BARNEY 08 Apr 1915 Rev John H Barney, aged 75 years, died at Clearville, Bedford 
County, PA. He was an old soldier and postmaster at Clearville for several 
years. He leaves 2 sons; Prof. J W Barney and J S Barney of Clearville, and a 
brother, Jacob Barney of Kansas.

BELL 14 Apr 1915 From the Pittsburgh Gazzette Times– William Wharton Bell, 
husband of Leora C Megahan Bell, aged 35 years, died on Sunday (11 Apr). The 
funeral is from his home, 805 Jarvella Street, Pittsburgh with services at the 
First Congregational Church.

BENDER 05 Apr 1915 Mrs Elizabeth Bender, aged 75 years, wife of the late August 
Bender, died at the home of a son J B Bender, Flintstone MD on Saturday (3 Apr). 
The following children survive: George W Bender of Frostburg; Jacob B Bender of 
Flintstone; Albert Bender of Eckhart; Mrs J W Wallizer of Davis WV; Mrs Lee Andy 
Rice of Jefferson Street, Cumberland; Daniel Bender of Wellersburg; C C Bender 
of Cumberland; and Mrs Fred Ludwig of Cumberland. The funeral is from the home 
of Mrs Lee Andy Rice with Rev David G Pile and burial in Mt Herman Cemetery.

BLAINE % Apr 1915 Mrs Annie Bland, aged 81 years, widow of Hugh Bland, died 
Friday (2 Apr) at the home of a daughter, Mrs George Bender on Bowery Street, 
Frostburg. Her husband was killed in Lonaconing 25 years ago in a mine accident. 
Surviving besides her daughter, Mrs Bender are: Mrs Thomas A Fraser of Gibson 
NM; and Mrs John Beveridge of Boston PA. Mrs Blaine lived for years in the 
Jackson area of Lonaconing. The funeral is from the home of Mrs Bender with Rev 
J Luther Martin and burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

BLAINE 03 Apr 1915 Mrs Annie Blaine, aged 81 years, wife of the late Hugh Blaine 
died of infirmities last night at the home of a daughter, Mrs George W Bender. 
She was a native of England and came to America at age 3 years. She is survived 
by 3 daughters; Mrs John Beveridge of McKeesport; Mrs Thomas Fraser of Trinidad 
CO; and Mrs G W Bender of Frostburg.

BLAUL 07 Apr 1915 Frank A Blaul, 69 years of age, died last night at his home on 
N Mechanic Street. A native of Hanover, Germany, he settled in Cumberland 48 
years ago, engaging in the retail meat business. He turned the business over to 
his sons and began the Queen City Tile and Brick Co and the German Brewery. He 
was married twice, his first wife also a native of Germany died 18 years ago. He 
married Miss Martha Flurshutz, who survives and these children from the first 
marriage: Fred, August, William; Mrs John Shaffer of Tifflin OH; Mrs Clifton 
White; Mrs Charles Schaidt; and Miss Matilda Blaul all of Cumberland; a brother, 
Ferdinand Blaul; and 8 grand children. Services are at the German Lutheran 
Church and burial in the German Lutheran Cemetery. Photo in the Apr 10, 1915

BRADLEY 12 Apr 1915 Mrs Edward R Bradley, 69 years of age, died at her home 16 
Beall Street, Frostburg on Saturday (16 Apr) . Two sons attended her funeral: 
William of Van Lear KY and George Bradley of Denver Co. Services are in Welsh 
Baptist Church and burial in Allegany Cemetery.

BRINKER 27 Apr 1915 Louisa Mary Brinker, aged 92 years, died yesterday at the 
home of a son, Matthias Brinker, 501 Oldtown Road. A daughter, Mrs Joseph 
Ruppencamp also survives. Her husband, George Brinker died several years ago. 
The funeral is at Sts Peter & Paul Catholic Church.

BROWN 10 Apr 1915 Mrs Marion Brown, widow of the late John Brown, aged 79 years, 
died at her home on E Main Street today. She was born in Scotland, and lived at 
Frostburg for the past 30 years. No children survive. Her remains will be sent 
to Madison WI for interment.

BROWN 03 Apr 1915 John Brown of Paw Paw died Monday (29 Mar) at his residence 
there. He was born in Alloa, Scotland 69 years ago and came to this country at 
age 25 years. He leaves 2 married daughters. He was well known jeweler and maker 
of the famous John Brown brass fishing lure. The funeral was held in the ME 
Church with Rev Alex Bielski of Annapolis ND.

BYWATERS 05 Apr 1915 Mrs Susan Bywaters, aged 81 years, widow of Charles 
Bywaters, died Sunday (4 Apr) at the home of daughter, Mrs John Sourbrine on 
Jealous Row, Mt Savage of paralysis. She was first married to the late John 
Winebrenner. These children survive : William Winebrenner of PA; J C Winebrenner 
of Cumberland; Mrs Mary Winebrenner; and Mrs John Sourbrine. The funeral is from 
the home of Mrs Sourbrine to the St George P E Church with Rev Joseph Ware and 
burial in the church cemetery.

CARBERY 15 Apr 1915 William Harrison Carbery, aged 32 years, died at her home of 
his father, Henry Carbery of 335 N Center Street, of tuberculosis. Services are 
from the home with Rev Martin Luther Enders and burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

CARR 07 Apr 1915 David Carr, aged 54 years, a native of Scotland and a resident 
of Woodland near Midland for the past 19 years, died yesterday of a prolonged 
illness. He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Mary Clausin and several 
children; David Jr.; Peter; Earl; Everett; John; Mrs Mary Foulk and Elsie of 
Woodland. A brother, Robert Jr and his father, Robert Carr of Gilmore; and also 
sisters, Mrs Belle Murphy; Mrs Howard Longley; Mrs Mary Raynor; and Mrs Lizzie 
Nelson all of Gilmore. He was employed by Consolidation Coal Co until his health 
failed and then he was employed by the Midland Electric Light Co. The funeral is 
Thursday with burial in Old Coney Cemetery.

CLARK 27 Apr 1915 Edward Clark, aged 21 years, son of Mrs Edward Clark of Paw 
Paw WV, died last night at Allegany Hospital where he had been operated upon for 
appendicitis . Burial services will be at Paw Paw and burial is at Sts Peter & 
Paul Cemetery.

CONNELL 01 Apr 1915 Mrs William Connell, aged 31 years, died at home on Virginia 
Avenue yesterday of tuberculosis. Her husband and 4 children survive, the 
youngest is 2 months of age. She was a telephone operator for the Western 
Maryland Telephone Co. She was the daughter of Joseph Furlong. The funeral is 
from the home of mother-in-law, Mrs Mary Connall, 331 Maryland Avenue and to St 
Mary's Catholic Church on Oldtown Road with Rev Father Connell of Oakland and 
Rev Father Lawless and Conlin officiating, and burial in St Patrick's cemetery.

COPE 27 Apr 1915 John W Cope, aged 65 years, died last night of congestion of 
the brain at his home, 30 Virginia Avenue. He had taken ill at his plumbing shop 
on Feb 4 and had to be assisted home. His wife, the former Miss Mary Katherine 
Piper, daughter of John Piper of Williamsport survives. Also surviving are a 
son, AM Cope of Virginia Avenue and a daughter, Mrs Claude Nave of Frederick 
Street. Also, 2 sisters, Mrs John Brem and Mrs J Joseph Fields, both of 
Cumberland. The funeral is from the home with Rev Frank A Killmon and burial at

COULEHAN 19 Apr 1915 Sister Mary Stanislaus died on Saturday (17 Apr) at the 
convent here of Ursaline Sisters after a long illness. Her father, John Coulehan 
of Frostburg and these brothers and sisters survive: John at home; Jeremiah of 
Cumberland; Sister Immaculate of Ursaline Sisters; Mrs James Kenney of 
Frostburg; and Catherine at home; the funeral and burial are at St Michael's 
Church and Cemetery.

CREEGAN 26 Apr 1915 Mrs Sarah Creegan, aged 37 years, wife of Edwin Creegan and 
a daughter of Mrs Mary A Cooney, died this morning at the home of her mother, 34 
Thomas Street after an illness of 2 years. Her husband resides at McKeesport and 
is employed at one of the steel plants. A sister, Miss Margaret C Cooney also 
survives. The funeral is at St Mary's Church and burial in St Patrick's 
Cemetery.

CUMBERLAND BOXING FANS 06 Apr 1915 Jess Willard and Jack Johnson heavyweight 
fight at Havana Cuba, was received by special wire of the Postal Telegraph Cable 
Co by the Times on Baltimore Street. The 1500 fans gathered on the street 
learned of the details of the fight as they were announced over a megaphone to 
the crowd. A special newspaper run produced 2500 extra copies for sale as the 
crowd rejoiced over the victory by Jess Willard.

DELBROOK 19 Apr 1915 Henry Delbrook, 67 years of age, died Saturday (17 Apr) at 
her home near Mt Savage. His wife and the following children survive: Frank of 
Mt Savage; George of Pine Hill PA; Harry at home; Mrs R Lepley of Mt Savage; Mrs 
William Hasselrode of Glencoe PA; Mrs James Lepley of Ellerslie; and Miss Martha 
Delbrook at home. The funeral services are in the German Reformed Church at 
Wellersburg and burial in the church cemetery.

ECKHART BASEBALL 24 Apr 1915 The Eckhart Scrubs, an amateur ball team for ages 
17 to 21 are formed: Cecil W Carter, president; John W Nelson, vice- president; 
Enoch Logsdon, secretary; George Nelson, treasurer; and players- James Close, 
Enoch Logsdon, George Nelson, John G Nelson, John W Nelson, Cecil Carter, 
William Eckhart, Francis Duffey, Charles Bruner, Edgar bennett, and Russell 
Barnard.

EMMERSON 17 Apr 1915 Noah R Emmerson, aged 62 years, a veteran of the war, died 
today at his home 140 Williams Road, Cumberland. His wife and one son survives. 
The funeral is from his home and burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

FARRELL 27 Apr 1915 Patrick Farrell, aged 79 years, died of pneumonia at his 
home in Mt Savage last evening. He had worked for the C&P RR for over 50 years 
prior to retirement two years ago. His widow and 5 children survive: John D 
Thomas, William M Thomas, Mrs William Brannon, all of Mt Savage; and Mrs P B 
Cain of Midland; and Mrs Henry Pressman of Frostburg. The funeral is at St 
Patrick's and the burial is at St Patrick's.

FINKELDEY 15 Apr 1915 Adolph F Finkeldey, the South Cumberland bakery owner, 
died today at his home on Virginia Avenue. He was born at Ellicott City MD in 
1865, moved to Cumberland at age 3 with his parents, and later, he took charge 
of the North Cumberland bakery of his father when he died and opened one on 
Virginia Avenue. He married Miss Catherine Borchert, who survives along with 
daughter Miss Freda Finkeldey. Also surviving are; 2 sisters, Mrs Dora Trost who 
is seriously ill at Western Maryland Hospital; and Mrs Louise Trost of 
Cumberland. Services are from the St Luke's Lutheran Church and burial in the 
church cemetery.

FLETCHER 19 Apr 1915 Bernard Fletcher died Friday night (16 Apr) at home in 
Bedford, aged 73 years. A native of Clear Ridge at Chapman's Run, and a son of 
the late Baltzer Fletcher. He leaves his wife, Miss Alice Jane Hardsock, the 
sister of Capt HH Hardsock, one son, six daughters, and these three brothers, 
John, Baltzer, and Albert; one sister, Mrs Caroline Price. He was an uncle of 
Chauncy Carbaugh of Hill St and a cousin of DW Snyder of the Alleganian. Funeral 
will be at the Catholic Church in Bedford. His six daughters were all school 
teachers when they were single. About one year ago, he was operated on at 
Western Maryland Hospital for a bullet wound incurred while hunting.

GELLESPIE 27 Apr 1915 Della Gellespie, aged 24 years, a waitress at Westernport, 
drank carbolic acid last night over an unfortunate love affair. Her note 
mentioned a Della Perine and it is believed she is either a divorcee or a widow 
and that her home is in Erbacon WV. Her body is taken to the Fredlock morgue in 
Piedmont. [Article is 7 paragraphs long].

GLOVER 12 Apr 1915 Mrs Mary Glover, 87 years of age, died at the Allegany County 
Almshouse due to infirmities. She is formerly of Garrett PA. The body is at the 
Butler Undertaking establishment.

HOTT 17 Apr 1915 Andrew H Hott, 33 years of age, the night foreman employed by 
the Klondike Mine #7at Lord, was caught in the mine cable and thrown against the 
mine rib receiving severe injuries and death at the Miners Hospital in 
Frostburg. He is survived by his wife and 3 children: a mother, Mrs David Hott; 
and these sisters and brothers; Mrs Idella Anderson of Carlos; Mrs Edward Miller 
of Lonaconing; Archie Hott of Carlos; and William Hott of Seattle WA. The 
funeral is on Sunday and burial in the Allegany Cemetery.

JOYCE 28 Apr 1915 Mrs Florence Blanche Joyce, aged 32 years, a daughter of Jacob 
Hausman of 122 Columbia Street, died and the funeral is from the home by Rev 
Carl F Bergner and burial in Greenmount Cemetery.

KELSO 13 Apr 1915 William E Kelso, aged 19 years, died at the home of his 
parents, Mr & Mrs Hugh Kelso on Welsh Hill, Frostburg on Saturday (10 Apr). The 
funeral is from the home with Rev J Luther Martin and Rev Dr J H Barnes and 
burial in Allegany Cemetery.

KENNEDY 03 Apr 1915 James Kennedy, about 76 years old, died this morning at 
Western Maryland Hospital of Bright's disease. He was a city employee, living 
here for 20 years. His body was taken to the home, 198 Fayette Street.

LAMBIE 20 Apr 1915 Frank S Lambie, aged 48 years, formerly of Cumberland died at 
his Clarksburg WV home following a brief illness. He was a foreman for the 
Consolidation Coal Co. mine there. A wife and 3 children survive. He was a 
nephew of James Grant of Bedford Street, Cumberland. The body was brought here 
for burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

LEHMAN 05 Apr 1915 Henry Clay Lehman, aged 73 years, died yesterday at his home 
at Cresaptown MD following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife and 2 
brothers: Espy Lehman of Cumberland, a former policeman; and William Lehman of 
Hyndman PA; and one sister, Mrs Michael Thomas of Myersdale PA. He was a Union 
soldier in the Civil War serving in Co. H, 93rd Reg., and was also in the 
mercantile business. The funeral is to be held at St Ambrose Church in 
Cresaptown and burial in the church cemetery.

MAGAHAN 27 Apr 1915 Pittsburgh Gazzette-Times On Sunday, 25 April 1915, Ralph 
Edgar Magahan, about 26 years of age, died. He was the son of the late John W 
Magahan and Leora Prassal. The funeral is from the home of a sister, Mrs Leora 
Bell, 805 Jarvilla St, Pittsburgh. Services will be held at the First 
Congregational Church, Penn & Chateau Streets.

MAIR 28 Apr 1915 James Mair, aged 74 years, died last night at his home in 
Eckhart. A native of Scotland, he came to Eckhart as a youth and worked until a 
few years ago, as a miner. He had served a term as a magistrate. A wife 
survives. A sister and a brother also survive in Salt Lake City UT. The funeral 
is from the home and burial in Eckhart Cemetery.

MARKLE 16 Apr 1915 Frank Markle, aged 57 years, died today at the Allegany 
County Asylum from a stroke of paralysis. He was a resident of Mt Savage where 
his remains will be taken.

McFARLAND 15 Apr 1915 John McFarland, a former postmaster, aged 73 years, died 
last night of a complication of diseases. A native of Glasgow, Scotland, he came 
to America in 1865, settling in Lonaconing and residing there the rest of his 
life. He married Miss Margaret Tennant in Scotland and she died several years 
ago. He was a miner, a post master for 12 years, and is survived by 5 sons and 4 
daughters: Mrs Gustav Schaidt of Lonaconing; John P McFarland of Pittsburgh; 
William McFarland. Mrs Alec McMillan, Peter C McFarland, Alex T McFarland and 
John M McFarland- all of Lonaconing; Mrs John Atkinson of Pittsburgh; and Mrs 
Connie Schweikert of Tompkinsville NY. The funeral is from the home on Dudley 
terrace with Rev H L Earnst and burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

MILLER 20 Apr 1915 P J Miller died at his residence this morning, 101 Fifth 
Avenue, at age 61 years, due to a complication of diseases. He was a contractor 
before his retirement. A wife and several children survive.

MORGAN 15 Apr 1915 Mr Richard Morgan, 80 years and 2 months of age, died at the 
home of a daughter, Mrs John Close, on Wood Street, Frostburg. He was born at 
Glostershire, England and lived at Frostburg for 49 years. A son and 2 daughters 
survive: Alfred Morgan and Mrs John Close of Frostburg and Mrs Noah Skidmore of 
Pittsburgh. He was a street supervisor but retired for the past 10 years.

MULLEN 16 Apr 1915 Mullen case is a mystery as nothing is proven yet.

NELSON 29 Apr 1915 Pittsburgh Post: On Saturday, April 24, at his home, 515 4th 
Street, Carnegie PA, James B Nelson, the husband of Dorothy Nelson (nee Reed), 
died in his 78th year. The funeral is from St Joseph's.

OCEAN BASEBALL 22 Apr 1915 The Ocean Whitewashers ball team is listed: Michael 
Byrnes, manager and catcher; W Emmerson, pitcher; Joe Palones, shortstop; James 
Cunningham, first base; John Noland, second base; Emmet Lannon, third base; 
Dennis Stakem, right field; Ed Evans, center field; William Lannon, left field; 
and substitutes, John Shearer, Robert Morgan, Owen McGreevy, and James Perkins.

PATTERSON 26 Apr 1915 Henry R Patterson, aged 71 years, died yesterday at his 
residence, 6 ½ miles east of Cumberland by a stroke of paralysis that he 
suffered a year ago. He was born at Berryville VA and was a confederate soldier 
under Gen. Rosser in Ashby's Brigade, the 12th VA Cav. He was engaged in the 
milling business. His wife and children survive: H Irving Patterson, Waterliet 
NY; Hunter Patterson, New York City; Mrs George M Keith, Lynchburg VA; and Miss 
Mamie Patterson , at home. Also, a sister, Mrs John H Leasure of Cumberland; and 
a brother, E C Patterson of near Winchester VA. Services are at Centenary Church 
with Rev William Pierpont and burial in the church cemetery.

PLUNKET 16 Apr 1915 Leroy Plunket, 4 year old son of Mr & Mrs Maurice Plunket, 
died of burns he suffered in a fire at his home on Park Avenue, Frostburg . Some 
children were dancing around a fire when he stumbled and fell in and his clothes 
were burned from his body. The funeral is held with Rev John A Grosse and burial 
at Allegany Cemetery.

PORTER 22 Apr 1915 Obituary from the Blissfield Michigan Advance newspaper Aden 
Clary Porter, born in Allegany County 23 Jan 1835 and died there 11 Apr 1915 at 
80y / 2m / 18d

REESE 27 Apr 1915 Thomas Reese, 26 years of age, died Sunday (25 Apr) at 
Eversville PA, at the home of his grandparents. He had been visiting relatives 
at Frostburg, started for home at Jerome PA and got as far as Eversville due to 
his illness. He is survived by his wife, a son named Thomas and 5 brothers.

RICE 21 Apr 1915 Miss Stella Rice, aged 19 years, daughter of Mr & Mrs George W 
Rice of 6 West Street, died after a lingering illness. Her parents and these 
brothers and sisters survive: Mrs Walter Rice and Mrs William Skelton of Detroit 
MI; and Melvin, Harold, and Miss Elenor Rice at home . The funeral is from the 
ME Church and burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

ROBINSON 19 Apr 1915 Mrs Rebecca Robinson, aged 46 years, wife of J J Robinson, 
a local newspaper man, died last night at Western Maryland Hospital where she 
had been a patient since Friday. She had been operated in December for gall 
stones and brought home to Smallwood Street to recuperate, but grew worse and 
operated upon again only to find cancer of the liver. She was born Miss Rebecca 
Bradley at Nova Scotia BC on Jan 23, 1869 and came as an infant to Lonaconing 
with her parents to reside. She married J J Robinson on 16 Dec 1885, and moved 
to Cumberland only 5 years ago. She is survived by her mother, Mrs Richard Carey 
of Lonaconing; her husband, J J Robinson; and the following children: Harry H; 
John J Jr.; Mark Twain Robinson; and Misses Adrienne, Jessie B; Maxine; and 
Sallie Robinson of Cumberland and Mrs Ruth Pressman of Detroit MI. The funeral 
is from the home with Rev M L Enders and W C Montignani and burial in Rose Hill 
Cemetery.

ROWAN 26 Apr 1915 Mrs Mollie A Rowan, aged 53 years, of 53 Maryland Avenue, died 
today of paralysis at Allegany Hospital. Born in Cumberland in 1861, she would 
have been age 54 on Wednesday (28 Apr). Her maiden name was Mollie Reckley and 
she married Robert Rowan of Lonaconing and they lived at McKeesport until he 
died 2 years ago. Three sons survive, William; Leo S; and F Clyde Rowan; and, 
also a daughter, Miss Catherine A Rowan; all of Cumberland. Services and burial 
are from St Peter's Church at McKeesport.

RUSSELL 03 Apr 1915 Mrs Thomas Russell, aged 20 years, died at Western Maryland 
Hospital yesterday from the effects of bichloride tablets she swallowed on 
Sunday at her home 301 Elder Street. Her husband a B&O RR employee and a sister 
living at Pittsburgh survive. The body was taken to Elkins WV for burial.

SCALLY 30 Apr 1915 Leo Scally, 18 month old son of Mr & Mrs Ralph Scally of 
Eckhart, died of accidental strangulation from a peanut lodged in his throat. A 
brother, Joseph , survives with his parents. The funeral is from St Michael's 
Catholic Church and burial in the church cemetery.

SIRBAUGH 05 Apr 1915 Mr Jerome O Sirbaugh, aged 37 years, died Saturday (3 Apr) 
at Western Maryland Hospital only 10 days following the death of his wife of 
typhoid fever. He was too ill to notify of his wife's death. Six small children 
ranging from age 9 years to 9 months, survive and are living with grand parents. 
They lived at Westernport. The funeral is from the home of his parents, Mr & Mrs 
Joseph Sirbaugh of Keyser and burial is in the graveyard beside his wife at 
Capon Bridge.

SMITH 05 Apr 1915 Mrs Elizabeth Smith died yesterday at Lonaconing of a 
paralytic stroke, aged 70 years. She was born at Ternet, Edinborough, Scotland, 
came to Lonaconing in 1865 and married the late Thomas Smith that year. She is 
survived by children: Mayor L A Smith; William; Andrew; James; Peter; and George 
Smith and Rachel, Robert, Christina, and James Smith all of Lonaconing. The 
funeral is at Detmold with Rev W L Lynn and burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

SMITH 20 Apr 1915 Miss Marie Pearl Smith, aged 14 years, daughter of Mr & Mrs E 
J Smith, died at the home of her parents in Ridgeley WV on Sunday (18 Apr). The 
body was taken to Meyersdale PA for burial with Rev Walter W White officiating.

SNYDER 16 Apr 1915 Mrs Rose Jeanette Snyder, aged 39 years, wife of John D 
Snyder and daughter of Mrs Frank P Haller, died at her home at 11 Pulaski Street 
today of heart trouble. She is survived by her husband and one son, Leroy 
Snyder. The funeral is Sunday and burial in the German Lutheran Cemetery.

STODDARD 21 Apr 1915 David Stoddard, aged 61 years, died last night of pleurisy 
and bronchitis at his home, 34 E Union Street. He had been returned to his home 
from his residence at Clarion PA, where he was a policeman for the Carnegie 
Steel Works. A wife and 5 children survive: Misses Anna, Nellie, Katie, Fay, and 
Belle Stoddard; and a brother, John of Cumberland and a sister, Mrs Thomas 
Langford of Allegany. Funeral is from the home and burial in McLuckie's 
Graveyard.

SUTTON 10 Apr 1915 Mrs Louise Vickery Sutton, aged 26 years of age, wife of C 
Lee Sutton of Thomas WV, died today at Western Maryland Hospital following 
treatment. She gave a dying statement that Dr William G Damm of S Mechanic 
Street performed an illegal operation upon her on March 20 . That caused her 
body to be held for an autopsy and his arrest. The burial is from her father 
Calvin Thompson's residence and burial in Davis WV cemetery.

SWARNER 01 Apr 1915 William Swarner, about 32 years of age, formerly of Jenner 
PA, was killed in a family fight by Dallas Murray last night. This occurred at 
the home of Mrs Levi Murray of 290 Maryland Avenue where her daughter, Mrs 
Swarner, and their 4 year old child, Merle, came to live January 18th. A quarrel 
at the home resulted in Mr Swarner striking his separated wife, and then, Mr 
Dallas Murray coming to his sister's defense and struck and killed Mr Swarner 
with a bottle. He is on the run. The funeral is in Garret PA. [Two column

TAYLOR 28 Apr 1915 Nathan A Taylor, the senior member of the N & G Taylor Co. 
tin plate company, died on Monday (26 Apr) at his home in Philadelphia. 
Surviving members of the company are: brother, H W Taylor; nephew, H N Taylor; 
and son-in-law, W W Justice.

TOLL HOUSE 28 Apr 1915 The Toll House on the Cumberland Road between Cumberland 
and Frostburg is featured in a story with a photo of the Toll House and the last

TWIGG 07 Apr 1915 Salley Twigg, aged 70 years, died last night at the County 
Home. He is survived by 2 daughters. The funeral is tomorrow and burial in Rose 
Hill Cemetery.

UNTZ 03 Apr 1915 Mrs Emma Untz, aged 54 years, a former Cumberland resident, 
died at St Francis Hospital, Pittsburgh yesterday from a burst blood vessel in 
the throat and internal hemorrhaging. She is survived by her 2nd husband, Oswald 
Beall and 3 children: Roola G Beall of Lawrenceville IL; Mrs Rose Shaffer of 
Cumberland: and Harry B Twigg from her first marriage living at Oakland CA. Also 
surviving are: sisters, Mrs Alice Hensel of Cumberland; Mrs Katherine Leasure of 
Hazen MD; Mrs S C Kuhn of Cumberland; and Mrs J B Poole and Mrs William Hast of 
Pittsburgh.

VIRTS 05 Apr 1915 Mrs J W Virts, aged 70 years, died on Saturday (3 Apr) at the 
home of a daughter, Mrs William Martin on E Street, Keyser WV, following a long 
illness. Her husband J V Virts and children survive: Mrs William Martin, Mrs J W 
Wolford, and W H Virts of Keyser; Mrs M L Mathaney of Grafton WV; Mrs Bessie 
Lyons of Washington DC; Mrs Grace Shanholtzer of Newport News VA; and Mrs C V 
Virts of Frostburg. The funeral is from the M E Church on Davis Street with Rev 
Frank Havenner and burial in Queens Point Cemetery.

WASMUTH 02 Apr 1915 2 Apr 1915 Mrs Christina Wasmuth , aged 83 years, widow of 
Heckhart Wasmuth, died at her home 104 Ormand Street, Frostburg. Born in 
Germany, she came here at aged 13 years. She is survived by daughters: Mrs 
Charles Harper; Mrs Annie Hartman; and Miss Lillie Wasmuth; all of Frostburg. 
The funeral is from the home and burial in Allegany Cemetery.

WATTS 28 Apr 1915 Mrs George Watts, daughter of the late William A Beall of 
Cumberland, died Monday (26 Apr) at her home in Durham NC following a protracted 
illness. She was 60 years of age, and born and lived in Cumberland before 
marrying her husband. He is an associate of the Duke's family of the American 
Tobacco Co. One child, Mrs John S Hill of Durham, survives. Sisters are, Mrs J A 
Mason and Mrs J McP. Scott of Hagerstown.

WIGFIELD 24 Apr 1915 Mrs John Wigfield, an aged lady , died last night at the 
home of her daughter Mrs George Hendrixson, 36 Davidson St after an illness of a 
few months. Mrs Wigfield's husband died last November and on the morning of the 
burial, Mrs Wigfield was stricken with paraphysis while standing in fromt of a 
mirror combing her hair in preparation for the funeral which was to be held at 9 
o'clock. She was put to bed and although she had shown some improvement from 
time to time, doctors held out little hope for her recovery because of her 
advanced age. The funeral will be Monday from the Oakdale Church.

WILLIAMS 26 Apr 1915 Charles Williams, aged 75 years, died yesterday at the 
Tuberculosis Sanitarium. Two daughters and two sons survive: Mrs Charlotte Lynn 
and Mrs Annie Burton of IN; Mr William F Williams; and Mr John Williams of 
Cumberland. The funeral is at Frostburg on Thursday.

WILLIAMSON 12 Apr 1915 Mrs Marie Logan Williamson, aged 26 years, wife of W F 
Williamson of Levels WV, died Saturday (10 Apr) at Allegany Hospital. She is 
survived by her parents at Gallway Ireland; her husband; and an infant son, born 
a few days ago. The funeral is at St Patrick's Church and burial in the cemetery 
of the church.

WILLISON 27 Apr Mrs Mary Willison died at her home on Bowery Street, Frostburg 
yesterday. She was a native of VA and the second wife of Andrew J Willison. 
Surviving children are: Misses Nell and Evelyn Willison at home; step- children: 
Miss Anna Willison at home; Mrs John E Taylor and Edward, Lawrence, and George E 
Willison of Frostburg. A brother, Charles Masters of Harrisonville VA also 
survives. The Willison Lumber Co of Frostburg is operated by her step- sons. The 
funeral is from the home with Dr John H Brickford officiating and burial in 
Allegany Cemetery.

YOUNG 08 Apr 1915 Mrs Mary Young, widow of Thomas Young, died at her home in 
Buffalo MO on April 4, 1915, about 66 years of age. She was a daughter of the 
late Isaac Long of South Branch. The family went west about 30 years ago. The 
family raised horses and mules. She leaves 4 sons and 1 daughter. Burial was at 
Buffalo MO besides her husband who died 6 years ago.
