September 2, 1952 Funeral Services Arranged For Tomorrow For Tri-Towns Area Residents Killed On Route 220 This accident occurred over the Labor Day holiday involving a parked car with one occupant, Miss Joretta Proudfoot, 21, of Rowlesburg who sustained severe lacerations of the face and eyes, and a 1951 hardtop convertible owned by 25 year old Richard Daniel Moran of Westernport, son of Mrs. Sarah (Wilkinson) Moran and the last Edward S. Moran, with four passengers: Timothy M. Gilmore, 32, driver of the car and husband of the former Elizabeth Ann Guy and son of Mrs. Grace (Shaffer) Gilmmore of Frostburg, and the late Timothy M. Gilmore. He served with the State Police six years; Charles Lee Kalbaugh, 28, Piedmont, husband of Mrs. Genevieve (Hamilton) Kalbaugh, and his 24 year old brother Earl Glenn Kalbaugh, sons of Earl C. and Margaret (Garvey) Kalbaugh; Richard Allen Michael, 25, of Westernport, son of Mrs. Annie Virginia (Kline) Michael and the late Bayard Michael. All died at the scene of the accident. James Thompson, 22, of Piedmont, the only survivor in the convertible was admitted to Sacred Heart Hospital with a possible fracture of the pelvis and a broken right ankle. The accident happened at 4:52 a.m. when Gilmore rounded a curve and was confused by headlights of another vehicle which was parked along Gilmore's side of the road. Apparently thinking the recently relocated road lay to the right of the headlights, Gilmore served off the road onto a gravel shoulder. By the time he realized his mistake, it was too late to stop. The car skidded several hundred feet, careened back to the road, and smashed against the front of the parked car.
