Brophy, 83, retired Western Maryland Railway boilermaker, died last night at his home, 727 Sylvan avenue, after an illness of two months. He also worked on the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal about 70 years ago. Mr. Brophy was born June 15, 1854. His wife, the former Ellen Danner, died in 1927. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Clara Helfrich, this city; a son, William R. Brophy, Pittsburgh; a granddaughter, Mary Brophy and a great granddaughter, Judith Rae Brophy, also of Pittsburgh. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic church, with interment in the church cemetery. Requiem mass will be celebrated by Rev. James A. Dwyer." Evening Times, Cumberland, Maryland, 4 Nov 1937: "Funeral rites for William B. Brophy, 83, who died at his home, 727 Sylvan avenue, Monday, were conducted this morning at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Interment was in the church cemetery. Rev. James A. Dwyer, assistant pastor, was celebrant of the requiem high mass. The pallbearers were Julian Shanholtz, E. Ralph Clark, Charles P. Coffey, Charles E. Danner, Thomas Danner and George Loeber."
