Two Aged and Venerable Ladies Pass Away". Cumberland Evening Times, Monday, May 17, 1909. Bureau of the Evening Times. Frostburg, Md., May 17 Mrs. Jane Burton, aged 73, one of the oldest residents of this place, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mollie [sic, Julia] Gatewood, in Washington, D.C., on Friday morning. Mrs. Burton went to Washington about a week before the inauguration of President Taft, and has been making her home with the above named daughter since that time. She was taken ill on last Wednesday and continued getting weaker until her death. The remains were brought here on Saturday evening and taken to the home of her son, Jesse, at Borden Mines, from which place the funeral occurred this afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment was made in Allegany cemetery, Rev. Geo. E. Maydwell, pastor of the First M.E. Church, officiating at the services. Mrs. Burton is survived by the following children: Mr. S.W. Burton [William Scott], of this place; Mr. Jesse Burton, of Borden Mines; Mr. Walter Burton, of Clarksburg, W. Va.; Mrs. Ann Russell, of Frostburg; Mrs. Mollie [sic, Julia] Gatewood, of Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Fannie Merrill, of Meyersdale, Pa., and Mrs. Kate Ort, of Portsmouth, Ohio.". "Funeral of Mrs. Burton". Cumberland Evening Times, May 18, 1909. The funeral of Mrs. Jane Burton, who died in Washington on Friday, took place today from the home of her son, Jesse, at Borden Mines. The remains of the aged lady were taken to the First M.E. Church, on Main street, where appropriate services were held, the deceased having been a member of this church for many years. Interment was made in Allegany cemetery, Rev. Geo. E. Maydwell officiating. ...several lines down... Mrs. Margie Graham, of Pittsburg, Pa., is spending a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Burton, at Borden Mines. Mrs. Mollie [sic, Julia] Gatewood, of Washington, D.C., is the guest of relatives and friends for a few days in this place. Mr. Walter Burton, a former Frostburg boy, now train despatcher for the B. & O. at Clarksburg, W. Va., is here for a few days, the guest of relatives.
