A. Carey, aged 34 years, a fireman on the Baltimore and Ohio railroad, died at the Miners Hospital, Fairmont, Sunday morning, Aug. 28, 1910, from injuries received the night before while at his duties at Newburg. The direct cause of death was internal injuries and a compound fracture of the left leg. The injuries were caused when Carey stepped in front of a train near Newburg. While at his work Saturday evening Carey was sent back from the helping engine in which he was fireman to flag another engine. He stepped in front of a rapidly moving train which was coming in the opposite direction and was fatally injured. The young man was picked up and placed on board the evening train for Fairmont. The train was several hours late Saturday night when he reached the hospital. All that was possible was done for the young man at that institution and his family was notified of the accident Mr. Carey was a single man well known here, having lived in Piedmont nearly all his life, and leaves two brothers and three sisters, Messrs. James F. Carey, an engineer of this place, and John J. Carey, assistant foreman of the B & O shops, Cumberland; Mrs. Martin O'Brien, of Piedmont; Miss Margaret Carey, of Cumberland, and Miss Winifred, a nurse in a hospital in Clarksburg. The remains were brought to the home of his sister, Mrs. O'Brien, Monday night by his two brothers and the funeral services were held in St. Peter's Catholic church Tuesday morning, Rev. Thos. E.
