Mr. Charles Cashel Connolly, one of the older residents of Piedmont, and well known beyond its confines, died Sunday evening, after a short illness, at the home of Mrs.H. McDermott, on Ashfleld street, at which place he had made his home for years. Mr. Connolly was a tailor by trade, and had been in business in Piedmont in that line for many years. He was also a writer of great ability and his many poems, besides being published by papers and magazines, were embodied in book form and issued about ten years ago. He was of a retiring disposition, and seldom mingled with the outside world, but withal was a good citizen, charitable and generous to a fault. He was never married. His funeral took place from St. Peter's Catholic Church this morning requiem high mass being celebrated by the pastor, Rev. Father Gallagher, assisted by Rev. Father Heath. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery. A very large concourse of people at the obsequies attested the esteem in which he was held. Mr. Connolly will be missed in our neighborhood, and of him it can truthfully be said: “His life was gentle, and the elements so mixed in him 'that Nature might stand up and say to all the world, “This was a man!” This file is located at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/md/allegany/obits/c/connolly-cc.txt
