Frostburg Mining Journal, September 16, 1899, Page 2. Daniel Conrad died at the home of his son, John H. Conrad, Mechanic Street, Tuesday, about 6 p.m. Mr. Conrad was born in Huntingdon, PA, Nov. 14, 1813, and while yet young came to Frostburg and entered the employment of R.D. Johnson, of Cumberland, teaming over the National Pike, before the days of the B & O R.R., between Cumberland and Wheeling. During the last 40 years he was a faithful employee of the Borden Mining Company, residing on their farm west of town. He married Elizabeth Holtzman March 25, 1838, and 13 children were born to them. Of these 9 are living, namely-- Mrs. Philip Michael, of this place; Mrs. William Shaw, of Grafton, WV; Mrs. Henrietta Gerlach, Mrs. J.L. Towles, Mrs. Henry Gerken, of this place; Thomas, of Marion, O.; Elmer E. of Meyersdale, PA; John H., of this place, and Mrs. Elmer Bittner, near Connellsville, PA. Mr. Conrad was a consistent member of the Lutheran church for many years, and his life as a citizen comported with his profession as a Christian.
