Evening Times, Cumberland, Maryland, 15 June 1929: 
"Barton lost one of its oldest and most highly respected citizens 
yesterday afternoon when James Footen, 72 years of age died of 
what was said to be heart trouble, at the home of his daughter, 
Mrs. John Bradley. He was a life-long resident of Barton and a 
member of St. Gabriel's Catholic church. He leaves two daughters 
Mrs. Bradley and Mrs. Thomas Mowbray, both of Barton: two sons, 
James and Thomas of Westernport; two sisters, Mrs. John Kelly, 
Cumberland and Mrs. John Athens of Fairmont, W. Va., and two 
brothers, Peter of Barton and Thomas of Frostburg."
