HARTLEY, William McKinley “Evening Times” Cumberland, Maryland, Tues 21 May 1946: 
“Kitzmiller, May 21-Funeral services for William McKinley Hartley, 49, son of the late 
William and Margaret Hartley, who died Friday in Veterans’ Hospital at Perry Point, 
after a lingering illness, were conducted Sunday in the Kitzmiller Mt. Bethel Methodist 
church with the Rev. J. H. Hardesty, pastor, officiating. Interment was in I.O.O.F. 
Cemetery, Elk Garden, W. Va. Pallbearers were Joseph Beals, John Bishop, William Owens, 
Sr., Jesse Walker, Milton E. Pritts and Louis Hutson. A resident of Kitzmiller for many 
years, Mr. Hartley was affiliated with the Methodist church and the Masonic Lodge here. 
He was a veteran of World War II. Surviving are two sons, Gerald and Morris Hartley, 
both of Baltimore, and a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Riley, of Wheeling, W. Va.”
