HIS NINETY-FOURTH YEAR. Frostburg’s Oldest Citizen Succumbed to injury Sustained a Week Ago Leaves Seventy Living Descendants - Funeral Tomorrow. The venerable George Hill, progenitor of seventy living descendants, and in his 94th year of age, died yesterday afternoon at 1:55 o'clock at the home of his son, Robert M. Hill, on the Borden Farm, about one mile west of Frostburg. Mr. Hill had been in ordinarily good health, especially for a man of his years, until one week ago, when in walking out through the yard, he slipped in a gateway and fell, breaking his left hip. The injury was so severe that, notwithstanding every possible effort to prolong his life, the wasted condition of his constitution was not able to combat the shock and pain. After lingering at times during the week perfectly conscious and rational, he lapsed into an unconscious state about daylight yesterday morning and passed peacefully away at the hour above stated. He is survived by one brother, Mr. Robert Hill, of Elizabeth, Pa., who was with him when the end came, one sister, Mrs. Margaret Campbell, of Webster, Pa., who arrived in Cumberland yesterday too late to reach his bedside; two other sisters, Mrs. Sarah Arden and Miss Mary A. Hill, of Fall River, Mass. Three sons and one daughter also survive: Robert M., with whom the venerable old gentleman made his home, where he was given every comfort and attention that could be had to make his declining years peaceful; George W., a prosperous merchant of Dixon, Ills.; David T., farmer of Jerseyville, Ills. and Mrs. Mary Robinson, of Allegheny, Pa. The long list of his living descendants include 50 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, about 12 having died prior to the demise of their grandparents. The late Thomas Hill was a son of the deceased, whose widow, Mrs. Elizabeth G. Hill, and two sons, Messrs. R. Mason and Howard C. Hill, and one daughter, Mrs. R.J. Flesher, reside in this city. The deceased was born in County Antrim, near Belfast, Ireland, on Jan. 6, 1817, and came to this country 31 years later, residing in Fall River, Mass., until March, 1858, when he came to Frostburg to enter the employ of the Borden Mining Co., in whose service he remained over 40 years. He was well known during part of this time as the manufacturer and jobber of a soap that was sold by nearly every business house in the county. He retired from active work about 10 years ago and has since made his home among his children and grandchildren, who were all devoted to him. The funeral services will be conducted at the late residence tomorrow Tuesday, afternoon at 2 o'clock, interment being made in the family plot in Allegany cemetery.
