DANIEL KEAN HE WAS ONE HUNDRED AND ONE YEARS OF AGE AND THE LAST OF SEVERAL, BROTHERS. The Oldest Man in Cumberland So Far as Known-A Long List of Relatives Survive. Mr. Daniel Kean, supposed to be the oldest man in this city, died yesterday afternoon at his home on North Centre street after an illness of some weeks, due to his extreme age. Mr. Kean was 101 years of age. He was a native of Ireland and came to this country many years ago. In his active days he followed various employments in this vicinity and for a number of years, in the prosperous days of the C. & O. canal, Mr. Kean worked on Lynn's wharf. After the abandonment of Lynn's wharf he worked for several years on the basin wharf. Some 5 years ago he suffered an injury to one of his limbs in a railroad crossing accident and after, that he was unable to follow any employment. Mr. Kean was injured at the Harrison street crossing of the B. & O. by a shifting engine backing down upon him. Strange as it may see that only a few hours after his death a woman was killed in very much the same manner as Mr. Kean was hurt on the very next crossing to the scene of Mr. Kean's accident. In his healthy, active days Daniel Kean was an industrious man whose companionship was very entertaining by reason of his jolly manners and steadfast devotion to his friends. He was the last of several brothers, who were well known citizens of this community. They were Messrs. John Kean, Bartholomew Kean, Patrick Kean and Anthony Kean. Mr. Kean leaves one son, Patrick Kean, of Versailles, near McKeesport, Pa., and one daughter, Miss Maria Kean, who resided with her father. He was the uncle of Mayor George A. Kean, superintendent of the Water Works, Thomas S. Kean, and ex-Postmaster Daniel E. Kean, and is survived by a large number of relatives in this vicinity. The funeral of Mr. Kean will take place tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock, with requiem mass at St. Patrick's church. This file is located at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/md/allegany/obits/k/kean-d.txt
