Chief of Police Burza Hanlin, Westernport, identified the youth as Carl J. Kearney, who resided with his sister, Mrs. Dewey Fazenbaker, 112 Railroad Street, Westernport. He would have been 21 next Sunday. Following discovery of the body, county authorities and State Police received an urgent call to investigate circumstances surrounding the death. The youth's face was badly smashed, Hanlin said, adding that it looked as if the body had been carefully placed at the bridge site. Police said the youth's head was lying toward the edge of the bridge. They surmised that it would have been difficult for him to fall and land in the position in which he was found. However, an opinion of "foul play" was reserved by officers pending further investigation. According to Kearney's brother-in-law, Dewey Fazenbaker, the victim was last seen at the Moose Home in Piedmont about 10 o'clock last night. Kearney served overseas 18 months and was discharged from the Army May 7, 1945, it was learned from the papers found on his body. The body, discovered by a passenger on a passing train, was identified at first from a Moose receipt found in the victim's pocketbook. A native of Westernport, he was a son of Luke and Olive (Boyce) Kearney. He was educated in the public schools there. Besides his sister and parents, he is survived by three brothers, Luke and Henry Kearney, Shallmar, and Charles Kearney, Westernport, and three other sisters, Mrs. Bernice Fazenbaker, Shallmar; Mrs. Corine Cornell, Luke, and Mrs. Virginia Warnick.
