Services were held at the house, the Rev. William Anthony officiating, assisted by his choir. Interment was made in Laruel Hill cemetery. William Kirkpatrick was a brakeman on the B & O and, while riding on the engine of his train, fell off and was so severely injured that he died a few hours later in the Miner's Hospital in Fairmont. He was only 19 years old." Evening Times, Cumberland, Maryland, 6 Nov 1929: "Twenty Years Ago--William Kirkpatrick, of Barton, a B. & O. trainman, died of injuries received at Calfax, in a fall from his train."
