"Piedmont Herald" Piedmont, West Virginia, Thu 28 Oct 1943: "
Mrs. Nellie Maffatt, 71, of Oakland, Md., mother of Mrs. James Estel Kenny, 
of Westernport, died last Thursday at 12:15 p.m. at Potomac Valley hospital, 
Keyser, where she was admitted on Wednesday evening. She had been ill for 
ten days at the home of Mrs. Kenny, where she had come to spend the winter. 
Mrs. Maffett was the widow of W. A. Maffett, of Oakland, who had died about 
thirty years ago. Besides Mrs. Kenny, she leaves two other daughters, Mrs. 
Elwood L. Englehart and Mrs. Charles F. White, of Richmond, Va.; two sons, 
Hugh Maffett, of Oakland, and Donald Maffett, of Cumberland, two brothers, 
Jeffrey DeWitt, of Detroit, Mich., and Frank DeWitt, of Vindex, Md. The body 
was brought here to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Kenny, and was taken on 
Monday morning to Oakland, where funeral mass was said at St. Peter's 
Catholic church. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery at Oakland."
