Sister Frances was born Aug. 18, 1916 in Westernport, Md., a daughter of Charles E. and Clara C. Collins McDade, and was a member of the Ursuline community for 58 years. She entered the convent in 1936 and professed final vows in 1941. She retired in May of this year after teaching for 56 years. She graduated from Catholic Girls' Central High School in Cumberland, Md., and received a bachelor's degree from Ursuline College in Louisville, Ky., and a Master's from Western Reserve University in Cleveland. Sister Frances taught at Immaculate Conception School, Ursuline High School and Cardinal Mooney High School in Youngstown, St. Rose in Girard, Holy Family in Poland and St. Nicholas in Struthers. She was principal at Sacred Heart and St. Columba in Youngstown, St. Joseph in Austintown, St. Joan of Arc in Canton, and St. John the Baptist, in Campbell. She served at St. Thomas Hospital in Akron in 1974-1976 and was director of the Altar Bread Department at the motherhouse in 1988-94. There are no immediate relatives. A sister, Mrs. Mary Byrnes, and four brothers, DeSales, Michael, Joseph E. and Charles A. McDade, are deceased. Friends may call from 3 p.m. Wednesday at the motherhouse. Material tributes should take the form of contributions to the retirement or ministry funds of the Ursuline Sisters. Arrangemenst are by the McVean & Hughes Funeral Home."
