"The Herald" Piedmont, West Virginia, Thursday 5 Mar 1931: 
"Frank McGreevy Killed By Bandit-Former Westernporter Was Shot In His Lunch Room 
Near Irwin, Pa.-Frank J. McGreevy, aged 38 years, a native of Westernport, was 
shot and instantly killed by a bandit in a hold-up of his lunch room near Irwin, 
Pa., early last Friday morning. Three bandits, each about 20 years old, entered 
the barbecue stand shortly before 1 o'clock. Patrons were seated at tables in a 
room adjoining the lunchroom, and the trio delayed giving their orders for food 
until the other visitors departed. McGreevy became suspicious and went outside 
to obtain the license number of their automobile. He gave the number to his wife, 
Mrs. A. Ella McGreevy, 36, formerly of Hancock, Md., and told her to remember it, 
as she might have cause to use it later. Mrs. McGreevy and the couple's two 
children, Donald J., aged eight, and Frank, Jr., 14, retired soon afterward and 
were in bed when the shooting occurred. John A. Keplar, of McKeesport, whose wife, 
Mrs. Margaret Keplar, is employed at the barbecue, told police that his wife went 
to the kitchen to prepare the order for the three men and that he was standing in 
the doorway between the kitchen and the lunchroom when McGreevy was shot down. The 
bandits took $6 from the cash register and fled in a stolen car. Besides his widow 
and children, McGreevy is survived by his mother, Mrs. Nannie McGreevy, of 
Cumberland; by four brothers, D. Arnold and Bernard V. McGreevy, both of 
Cumberland; Owen P. McGreevy, of Westernport; and Thomas L. McGreevy, of Cleveland, 
Ohio, and by two sisters, Mrs. Norman E. Sell, of Cumberland, and Mrs. C. A. 
McMurrer, Charleston, W. Va. The remains were brought to his mother's home at 224 
Avirett Avenue, Cumberland, and the funeral service was held Monday morning at St. 
Patrick's Catholic Church, that city. Interment was in the church cemetery."
