“The Herald” Piedmont, West Virginia, Tues 22 May 1979: 
“Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday at St. Gabriel’s Catholic 
Church in Barton, for James Joseph (Mickey) McPartland, 64, Barton, who died 
Thursday in Potomac Valley Hospital. Burial was in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Serving 
as pallbearers were Joe House, Charles Howell, Tommy Miller, George Budries, 
James O’Rourke and Alex Wood. Boal Funeral Home was in charge of the services. 
Born in Lonaconing, he was a son of the late Patrick McPartland and Mary 
(Higgins) McPartland. He was employed as the sexton of St. Gabriel’s Catholic 
Church and had formerly been the sexton of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Lonaconing. 
He was a veteran of World War II, a member of the VFW, Lonaconing, and St. 
Gabriel’s Catholic Church. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Helen (Stemp) 
McPartland, one daughter, Mrs. Joanne Dickinson, Frederick, Md., and two 
grandchildren.”
