Sept. 9, Slate falling from the roof of the Cumberland Potomac Mine at Morristown caused the death of Charles Michaels, aged 19, son of Mr. & Mrs. Peter Michaels, Wellersburg, yesterday afternoon at 3:15 o'clock. A number of miners were engaged with young Michaels in cutting coal with a machine when a portion of the roof gave way, a quantity of slate hitting him on the head fracturing the skull. An ugly scalp wound resulted. Pulsation was evident for twenty minutes before death without consciousness. Besides his parents young Michaels is survived by three brothers and seven sisters. He was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church at Mt. Savage and was one of the most popular young men in the Wellersburg section.
