All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/md/mdfiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Pauline Harder redrahde@AOL.com and Ruth Sprowls April 2, 2008, 5:42 pm Evening Times, Cumberland, MD, Sept. 25, 1907 Kelita Miller, a veteran of the Civil War, and a pensioner of the United States, died at the residence of his son-in-law, Wiiiam Getson, in Dudley, at 4 a.m. yesterday. Deceased was born in Pompey 69 years ago, and came to Lonaconing in his childhood and worked in and about the mines until the breaking out of the Civil War. He enlisted in Company D. 2nd Md. Vols. P. H. B., for three years, or during the war. Before the three years were up, he re- enlisted and was given a bounty, in accordance with the provisions of an act of Congress passed to retain veterans in the service. He served until the close of the war. Mr. Miller was married at the close of the war to Miss Mary Murphy, of near Midland, who survives him, as also does ten children. They are Isaac, Charles, Louis, Frank and Gibson, all residents of Lonaconing. The surviving daughters are Mrs. William Getson, Mrs. William J. Haines, Mrs. John Click and Misses Nettie and Annie, all of this place. Mr. Miller was a pensiner under the law of June 27, 1890, and drew the maximum of $12 per month. He was a member of McPherson Post, Grand Army of the Republic, which he joined October 5th, 1881. He enlisted August 8, 1861, and was mustered out May 29, 1865. The funeral will take place toorrow at 2:30 p.m. Religious services will be conducted at the Getson residence by Rev. R. D. Stephenson, pastor of the Baptist Church, in Lonaconing. McPherson Post will bury their comrade with military honors, and interment will be in old Coney Cemetery.
