“Evening Times” Cumberland, Maryland, Fri 1 Mar 1895: “Drowned In The River-An 
Ashbank Gave Way and Plunged Patrick Moran Into a Watery Grave-This morning 
Patrick Moran, an employe of the Baltimore and Ohio railroad at Piedmont, was 
pushing ashes out on the “ash dump” which was located near the river, when the 
“dump,” which was undermined by water, gave in, and Mr. Moran was plunged 
headlong into the great volume of ice and water and drowned. His body at this 
writing has not yet been found. The matter has created great excitement at 
Piedmont and Westernport. Mr. Moran was well up in years and was a faithful 
employe. He leaves surviving him a wife and four grown children.”
