"Evening Times" Cumberland, Maryland, Fri 8 Feb 1963: "
John J. Murphy, 60, of 7 Potomac Street, died yesterday at the Greene Street Grocery where he 
was employed. Born in Lonaconing, he was a son of the late Michael J. and Mary J. (Daugherty) 
Murphy. A resident of Cumberland the last 25 years he formerly operated Murphy Brothers 
Grocery on LaFevre Road. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society 
and the Knights of Columbus. Surviving are his wife, Louise (McCulley) Murphy; one son, John 
J. Murphy, Jr., at home; three daughters, Mrs. Charlotte Blake, Honolulu, Hawaii, Miss Mary 
Jane Murphy and Miss Louise Murphy, at home; one brother, Francis D. Murphy, city and one 
sister, Miss Rose D. Murphy, Ridgeley. The body is at the Scarpelli Funeral Home."
